I appreciate that the entire menu is gluten free, which makes ordering a lot easier for those who require GF. My overall experience however was unsatisfactory and I would not go back.
The first basket of chips we received were somewhat stale. This and other attention to detail elements in the service were lacking. We were served beans in a ramekin with a chip in the ceramic for example, also when we sent back a glass because it was not completely clean, we were resupplied with the fresh glass that was also not completely clean. Additionally, our wait time was exceptional. I believe from the time we seated we were there for an hour and a half.
The blue corn handmade tortillas had sounded appealing, but I wonder if ours were made the previous day? It was mother's Day. Maybe they were busy and hadn't made fresh ones today? Regardless, they were not particularly good. I've certainly had better made-in-house tortillas at other local Mexican restaurants around town.
They were unfortunately out of red snapper so I opted for the Baja fish tacos. I was literally taken aback when I saw what I was served. The filling was essentially a very small fish stick battered in what was essentially funnel cake. It looked like something that would have come from the Missouri State Fair. I suppose this is not such a bad thing if it's what you're expecting, I was just hoping for something different. Trying to be a good sport, I ate the first one as it was served. However, for my remaining two tacos I felt it necessary to scrape off the breading.
With that said, clearly many people love and adore this restaurant. It's quite possible I was just there on a bad day. It seemed like the kitchen was short-handed.
Also, I certainly didn't try a lot of things For example, I can have no opinion about the quality of margaritas since I don't drink.
BTW, I actually thought the salsa was pretty good.
I acknowledge that there maybe other menu items worth giving a try. Nonetheless, as I said initially, I was over all dissatisfied, and would not...
Read moreI want to start by saying how excited I was to try this place. But, unfortunately, I was let down by my experience. Here it is: Last Friday I went to Chattahoochee Food Works for the first time ever with a couple of friends of mine for an early dinner. They decided that they wanted to eat at Fox Brothers BBQ and I decided that, since I’ve really been wanting to try Chicheria, that I’d get it to-go and just eat it at Fox Brothers with my friends. When I went inside of the restaurant the hostess (I believe her name was Daphne, or at least that’s what was on her necklace) informed me that to-go orders were made at the bar so that’s where I went. There were already 3 people sitting at the bar (a couple and a man sitting separately) eating their food as I approached. I sat down at the bar where there were at least 1 or 2 bartenders and a couple more employees that stopped through to pick up food for tables. The restaurant was crazy busy btw. NOT ONCE was I greeted, spoken to, or even acknowledged as I sat at the bar. They just kept looking over and walking past me as I sat there. No one even offered me a menu. I just asked the lady from the couple if I could use hers. I sat there for at least 10-15 minutes without ever being offered service. So, after getting tired of being ignored, I decided to leave. And as I was walking past the hostess podium to leave, I let Daphne and the other young lady that was standing there that I was leaving since no one offered to serve me after waiting all that time. And all they did was stare at me like deer caught in headlights. No words came from their mouths. Not an apology, acknowledgement, or ounce of concern. So I just walked away and left and joined my friends across the way at Fox Brothers where I received lovely service and a delicious meal. Again, I want to reiterate how excited I was to try Chicheria. It’s literally been on my list since it opened so this was a VERY...
