Brittany's Cafe — Restaurant in Atlantic City

WHITES ONLY - and I am not talking about eggs.

After reading reviews on Yelp, my wife and I recently went to this cafe with our very handsome (I am the father - what do you expect) 6 year old son. My wife is white and I am not. Our son is kind of in the middle.

Three people (all white) had just been seated as we walked in. Within a minute the waitress (the older one) came and took their order. We just assumed we would be next. A few other people (all white) came in, got their menus and got their orders taken. We waited for more than 10 minutes before the waitress came and took our order.

The food took some time to come too but it was within reasonable time. My wife went to the restroom (pay attention - this is going to be important later on), the waitress came to see if we needed something else, I just asked her for the check. I was wondering how much to tip her so I also asked the waitress (very politely) why it took so long for our order to be taken. She was very polite and gave an answer that did not make any sense. I let it go and figured there was no problem.

We waited another 10 minutes before she brought our check. She went around pouring coffee, talking at length with multiple customers etc.

I gave her 20% tip because at this point I was still not 100% sure what was going on.

Later in the car I told my wife about my conversation with the waitress. Then my wife told me that when she was in the restroom she heard the waitress talking bad about a customer. My wife heard her say something like "God forbid they have to wait to get their food. They are lucky they got their food at all". That to me is proof that this place is for whites only.

Later I found another review on Google+ about this place about a group of women who also faced discrimination.

By the way, the food at this place is just regular cafe food that you can get in any other cafe. Not bad but not...

We searched for a recommended dinner and decided to give this place a try. I’m a fan of supporting small business so was happy to go. First of all, it’s a very small space - neither a negative or positive. They had one table open and they placed us at the very back right across from the kitchen where they were cooking. Again, not a negative or positive. I had to go to the rest room …. That’s the first negative. It was borderline. Takes little time or effort to keep it clean and spruce it up. A major negative was you could look straight to the food prep area and it was disgusting. A lady was pealing potato’s and her entire surrounding in the small place was unhygienic! She was coughing up on the potato’s and I watched her pick up a potato she dropped on the floor and just tossed it into the other pealed potato’s without hesitation. We ordered a large breakfast and I just couldn’t eat it. The staff was extremely nice and efficient and the owner was extremely nice but I had to make an excuse for not eating our food. It’s appears to be a great little breakfast joint but I highly recommend some food prep training is in order. Also, maybe place a screen or curtain so folks going to the rest room don’t have to see all the food prep going on. Lastly, clean out the area - throw all the empty boxes away immediately and attempt to keep the floors and surrounding as clean as possible. It just looks so unhygienic. I give it 3 stars because I’ll never ding a small business owner on my first visit as improvements are easy to make usually. I will come back for sure as one bad day doesn’t mean minor corrections...

I called about a bad Caesar salad, sent to me after using door dash for delivery... the waitress told me she didn't see what it looked like going out, but told me she'd ask the cook... the cook accused me of lying... I was then told told the owner would call me back to help make the situation right. The owner got back to me an hour and a half later, I missed the call since I was working, but called back 20 min later as soon as I saw... she was clearly defensive, which I get since she was standing up for her subordinates, but I told her I have proof through pictures and videos taken right after delivery, but was told there was nothing that could be done, because I threw out the proof. I offered the picture, and videos I took... But was dismissed, time and time again and completely disregarded as a paying customer... the Romain was obviously unwashed, and they prepared my salad with all the discarded leafy brown bits, and tips... on top of that, it wasn't even cut properly. I offered to dig it out of the trash so she could see what they sent, and bring it to the cafe, but was lied to instead that they checked cameras and there's no way her cooks sent that out. it was obvious she didn't wanna hear my complaint, so I did get really upset towards the end of the conversation. what a horrible experience, but never again! as someone who works in the food industry and knows better, and has ordered from this establishment before, all I can say is I will spread the word about how disgusting, unsanitary, and unprofessional...
