READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING!! Okay, let me start off by saying I wasn’t aware this particular place was a motel rather than a hotel. That being said upon arrival I was immediately disappointed but none the less decided it was fine for the price and it would only be for one night. I choose this place as it was walking distance to the Tropicana which is exactly where I spent the majority of the night. The first annoying thing was that after check in the property manager informed me that the room only had one key that he would keep and so he would be the only way we could get back into the room once the door closed. Fine again I thought. Whatever. The man was nice enough and assured me no matter how late we arrive back at the room, he or someone would be available to open the door. Moving forward while we’re settling in I notice the blankets and towels were all speckled with some gross brownish stained spots. There was also a microwave that sat in similar fashion covered in what I assume was old food all over the front. The inside was not that bad but i definitely would not use it to warm anything edible up. It’s fine I thought. One night I thought. The room included a parking spot right on the lot of the motel in front of the room which I thought was great! The shower with a tub was fit into an unwelcoming, small and cold bathroom that looked as if it belonged in someone’s upkept home. None of us used it, thankful to have showered before the 3 hour drive down here. So we got ready and headed out to the Tropicana. The beach and boardwalk were literally right up the block from the motel and we were at the Tropicana in like 10 minutes. The whole trip was for my birthday celebration and we all figured after partying at the hotel, sleeping on the hard spring mattress that must have been from the 80s wouldn’t be such a problem. Fast forward to the end of the night. We walk back. Grab the attendant and get inside. As planned we all lay down and eventually fall asleep. Apart from hearing our neighbors clearly though the walls it was fine until in the early morning. Around like 5:00 AM we begin to hear rustling and squeaking. For some reason I decided it was nothing and tried to ignore it but then the squeaking became more aggressive. My friends whisper, “WHAT IS THAT?!” I turn over to the side of the bed where my overnight bag is and I kid you not, there are like 4-5 mice fighting over a freaking cheese puff that scatter as soon as I scream! We flick the lights on and there is still one mouse desperately trying to take this cheese puff with him as he slides under the crack of the bathroom door frame. I could not believe it. Upon further inspection we discover the closed bag of cheese puffs my boyfriend had in another bag on the floor from our Wawa pit-stop had been chewed through as evidenced by a hole and colored plastic bits all over the place. We decided to check our bags for mice, pack up and leave right then and there. Check out was at 11:00 AM and we were out of this place by 6:00 AM. We walked up to the attendant and say, “We are checking out. Room 103”. The man responds “Okay” and no other words are exchanged. We get in the car. It’s dark and raining outside and start our 3 hour drive back home happy to be out of the cigarette stench-filled “Non-smoking room” wondering if the mice would continue their battle royal with the single cheese puff we left on the ground. Long story short, take this motel for exactly that. A dingy and dirty little motel. Needless say, next time we’ll splurge and just stay at the...
Read moreWe only stayed at the Downbeach Inn because we were not familiar with the area, and from the map, this property seemed convenient to the Atlantic City boardwalk, and was less expensive than the branded hotels (Caesar's, etc.). Interestingly, the name of this property had recently changed from the Rodeway Inn to the Downbeach Inn, so I wasn't able to find much info on the Downbeach Inn. After having stayed here, I feel the name change is to try to disassociate the property from the bad reviews listed under the Rodeway Inn. And I feel the bad reviews are warranted. As soon as we entered the room, we were hit with a foul odor. Then I looked at the box spring (visible as the comforter wasn't long enough to cover it), and the box spring had a hole in it. Things went downhill from there. The inside of the shower curtain was covered in mildew, everything in the room was not only outdated, but in serious need of repair. The comforter and mattress pad had cigarette burn holes in them. And I pulled down the sheets to get into bed and the sheets were not only filthy with black marks all over them, but there was a long brunette hair on the sheets (I am blonde and my companion has short gray hair), so this hair definitely did not belong to us. I was very grossed out and felt the sheets probably hadn't been changed from the previous guest. We went to the front desk and were given another set of sheets and we changed the sheets ourselves. I've included some photos which depict the condition of our room (#102). Some things I liked...there was plenty of free parking at the hotel and at lots directly across the street. We were also one block from the boardwalk/beach. Please note that the southern end of the boardwalk closest to this property is very deserted and the buildings are vacant, so there's not a lot of foot traffic at night. I would not recommend this hotel. Instead, spend a little extra to stay closer to the activity on the boardwalk in a...
