Saw the reviews and decided to try. We were the first two people in the cafe.
I ordered chicken fried steak with potatoes and eggs. My spouse ordered the hillbilly, country fried bacon on top of a biscuit covered in gravy with two eggs. Side 1 pancake.
The chicken fried steak breading was greasy and not very crispy. The breading was plain, and the meat was like a large hamburger patty with no seasoning. The gravy was runny like buttermilk and also under seasoned. The eggs and potatoes were cooked well.
The Hillbilly: The deep fried bacon was good. The biscuit was burnt black on the bottom, but the top tasted good. The gravy was as stated before. The eggs and hash browns were cooked well.
The pancake was tasty until the doughy middle.
We noticed a gentleman that appeared to be the manager. He did not do much, and was on his phone most of the time. When people got up to pay he didn't acknowledge them, even though he was at the checkout podium. Instead, he puttered around & went outside to text. The waitresses were left to do all the work.
Our waitress was great, & checked on us often. When asked, we gave our opinion, and she noticed our findings as well. She appeared disappointed & agreed with us. Apparently the main chef wasn’t working that day.
There’s a faded restaurant sign outside, with a small custom cafe sign over the door. That should have been an indicator to turn around. The decor was very confusing. Pictures lined the walls of anime and superheroes. Christmas lights around the walls and a pinch of country style tables.
All in all, we wouldn’t go back, even for a free...
Read moreI like the location, it’s small and quaint and there’s a fun feel to the place. And some of our food was really good. I got Chicken & Waffles, and while I only got one small piece of chicken for two waffles, it was tasty and the hot sauce was great. But the biscuits tasted like they came out of a bag, which was disappointing, but the gravy was good, if a little under seasoned. Overall, we were pleased with the food. However, our service was atrocious. Our waiter barely spoke to us and didn’t attempt any kind of greeting or pleasantry. What’s more? He seemed visibly annoyed when we didn’t know what we wanted about 90 seconds after we sat down. He never brought us refills and he only checked on us one time in passing, though he was constantly walking past us to check on his other tables outside and to bring them refills. By the time we were finished, we had to wait 10-15 minutes before we even saw him again, and then WE had to flag him down just to get the check. I’d have been happy to go there again to give the food another shot, but our service was so poor that I’d much rather take my money somewhere that will provide us with good food AND quality service. Very...
Read moreFirst off I’ve never been to a restaurant and thought that everything was the best! After having a very heartbreaking evening, our group found ourselves at Nancy’s. What a wonderful surprise, not only was the food absolutely amazing, the service was friendly and restaurant was very clean. My fiancé ordered The Mess. I ordered the 2x2x2, I don’t eat eggs so they let me substitute for hash browns, which were the best hash browns I’ve ever had! I went with the bacon, which the server recommended and was a fantastic choice. The bacon was actually bacon!! Not some microwave, thin atrocity. Then the pancakes, WOW. Just WOW. Best pancakes I’ve ever had in my life. My fiancé isn’t the biggest pancake fan but tried a bite and said they were the best pancakes he’s ever had! Hands down best breakfast I’ve had! Even the coffee and water were the best!! We live in Reno but will be stopping by regularly on our way to the Bay Area to visit family or if we need a breakfast fix! 10/10...
