This is a great little place if you don't want to spend big. Maybe all one needs is a taco snack between meals. It's close to the library so If I am spending my day working at the library, this place works for me, for a little money. It exhausts me to need sustenance to tide me over and I have to spend close to $20.00 to get that. One can get a quick bite to eat here for under $5.00. a lot of places don't offer that without being a side of fries. I always enjoy my meal when I come here. I try to order big so I can take stuff home. Last night I couldn't decide. They told me about bistec ranchero. $22.00. enough for two people. I had the remainder for breakfast this morning. They have two that was pointed out to me, but the other one is more spicey. No. I don't want that. Once the spice hits me, I'm through. I just need to stick to that. There is nothing wrong with this place. It is small, but I would hate if they were to move somewhere bigger. When my son and his family come to town, this is one of the restaurants we go to. They can not get authentic Mexican food where they live. His wife, my daughter in law, always orders something with shrimp and it is always delicious. She always offers me a taste. Ochetta, beer. Come on! This place is for families. I always feel...
Read moreWe stopped in to try this place for the first time. Not disappointed at all. In fact, the food was fantastic. The chicken enchiladas with the green sauce was probably the best I’ve ever had. The one thing I noticed immediately when the plate was placed in front of me is that the food looked and smelled incredibly fresh. It turned out to be so. I hate food that’s bland and has no flavor. Happily that wasn’t the case here at all. The food was fantastic, tasteful and full of flavor. I will definitely be coming back again and again. This place is highly recommended. You’ll have to try the chicken enchiladas. The flour tortillas in the enchiladas are filled with plenty of white chicken breast meat perfectly seasoned and smothered with green sauce topped with perfectly melted Mexican cheese. The beans are particularly delicious too, unlike other restaurants they they don’t seem to come from a can, they have so much flavor one would think they were homemade. The servers were attentive and kept filling our chips, finally the price was for everything was affordable reasonable. You couldn’t ask for anything else.Update 1 year later. Still the best Mexican restaurant in Illinois! The Arrachera...
Read moreIt was one of those days where I had a taste for something very specific which led me to El Tio. I go there infrequent enough to have an understanding of the taste and good enough remembrance the price. I called in a simple chimichanga add cheese on top and I bottled drink. They never tell you the price when I call I so I didn’t bother asking but didn’t anticipate spending $12 for the chimichanga and another $2 for the cheese on top when I got there. My eyebrows popped up because I didn’t order the meal. I hit up the online menu because at that point I’m perplexed. The price on the menu was $7.20, still a bit much but not totally unreasonable. I proceeded to show the cashier who immediately knew what I was about to ask and stopped my before I could and said that was the old price lol. This isn’t one of those “if you broke just say that” instances. If I was I def would preface it lol. The prices are too high for what you’re given.
Next, the food…. Meh. Something changed besides the price and I’m not...
