So I've been hesitant to go back to Mr. Kim's because there was just a lot of things that were problematic for me (service, cleanliness, price, etc) but that being said, this review is based on the new ownership and changes that have been implemented since then.
First and foremost, the menu has changed. And definitely for the better, if I might add. We ordered option A were completely satisfied with the variety of meats it came with. Definitely more than before. In addition to AYCE meats.. Appetizers are included now too! That was a bold but wonderful move on the new owners. I know this is common at many other AYCE KBBQ places so it's nice that it's now an option here too. A few new items are here as well such as the pork jowl and butter garlic shrimp, both which are delicious. I'm a little surprised that just plain shrimp isn't on the menu as well.
One other thing worth noting and it's truly the main reason that I docked off a star is how they are choosing to handle child's pricing. Currently, kids 4-8 (up to 4'6" tall) are charged half price the adult menu. I've got a 4 year old kid, who does not eat anywhere near $16+ worth of food for a single meal. And sometimes that's IF he even eats. During this visit, he ate half a bowl of rice, a quarter of the steamed egg, and the some of the mac salad. I was lucky to get away with sneaking some pork belly in his rice. So though I've accepted that the prices of AYCE KBBQ are going up, I question the price they have set for kids.
As far as food goes.. Again, my family selected option A and we were very satisfied with the selection in that specific option. The meats and appetizers were very tasty. And we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Their banchan game was also elevated by adding more options such as mac salad, potato salad, thinly sliced radish, vegetable pancake, etc. I liked all of them, but my hubby didn't care for some of them. From their appetizers, we did try their spicy rice cakes. They use homemade rice cake y'all. It's such a game changer when it's used. It was delicious and we would definitely order that again.
The overall atmosphere is the same as before. They did paint the walls which make it look cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing. They took away the call bells which is not a huge miss since they rarely answered it when it was there. It was pretty clean for the most part and they were quick to clean the tables. It looks like some, if not all, of the servers stayed with the new owners.. I've got issues with one of them because customer service is not something they do well. However, this time was a little better. They were not our immediate server, but we did observe.. I hope it continues to get better. Still not too keen on being served by them though.
Final notes: For those like us, who have been hesitant on returning, now is the time to give them another shot. With the new changes, I would now recommend this place for AYCE KBBQ.
That being said: Food: 10/10 Service: 7/10 Ambiance: 9/10 Cleanliness:...
Read moreI don't normally like to leave bad reviews but my experience here was so terrible, I had to share. Long story short: RUN. Literally any other korean BBQ spot would treat you better than Mr Kims. Service was absolutely terrible but here's the short story long. I arrived with 3 other of my friends and we were going out to celebrate a birthday. Our server "Sunny" greeted us with such an attitude as if us being there was some sort of issue. We start off with the first round of meats and then she asks if we want any sodas. She gets an order of Soju and before I am ever acknowledged she just runs off to get it but then gets so stuck in the weeds that my friend doesn't get his drink for at least 20 minutes and after 30 minutes she finally comes back and finally gives us our first plate change and I can finally order a beverage. Now this is where things take a turn, because not only is "Sunny" rushing us by throwing all of our meets on the hot plate to cook, she rudely asks me if im going to finish all the meat im trying to order when I hadn't even eaten anything as I was the one cooking for everyone. For a place that offers " all you can eat", I think thats an incredibly weird and rude thing to ask someone whos paying to eat in your restaurant. As I am still cooking and trying to eat, she's now trying to rush us all out by dropping off the check and doesn't even ask if we want/need anything else. This is absolutely terrible service especially when one of my friends started to not feel well so I went into the restroom to check in on him and the server just kept trying to rush us out. DaeGee would NEVER treat us like that. Extremely dissapointed in this experience as I heard this was a great place for KBBQ but given the level of service I would never come back, let alone with anyone. Even if there is a 2 hour time limit on tables we arrived shortly after 7 pm and hadn't even been there for an hour. To rush a small group of people after you've already neglected them is wild work to me and I worked in the service industry for 10+ years. This level of service is abysmal and all we wanted to do was sit down and have a nice meal amongst friends but thanks to "Sunny", that was all ruined. I dont know if rude service is part of a "truly authentic korean bbq spot" but management needs to do something about this.
Edit: I don't care what generic copy and paste response the restaurant will put under my review and this appears to be a common trend for this place so no, I will not be coming back or giving you guys another try ever again. Also shame to all the influencers yall paid off for the great reviews cause the service here is...
Read moreMy husband and I had not visited this restaurant for quite a while now even if it’s quite near our place. Tonight, we decided to gave it a try again instead of going to our go to K-BBQ AYCE Resto in Federal. As we entered, we immediately saw a big difference in the atmosphere. Usually in the past, there’s no long queue here coz’ there’s not much people visiting the place. But tonight, the place is packed and all tables with bbq stove are occupied. Although they’re quite busy, we didn’t wait for too long before we got seated. The servers are all new faces. The male server assigned in our table was very attentive and promptly served us our orders. What we really like in any AYCE places are servers that don’t wait to get called but instead initiate in asking each tables assigned to them if what they need or do they need to order again. And our server that night is just like that. The meat’s quality improves a lot compared to the times we visited in the past (can’t remember when we last visited this place) especially their samgyupsal, it’s really good now. The banchans are very tasty and they served a lot of varieties now compared before. And also, the one improvement that I immediately observed is the plastic glasses used in serving the sofdrinks are clean now. Before, the glasses were cloudy and the restaurant in general is not clean (the table and floor is sticky), this was the main reason why we stop going to this resto. They also have a new menu and the prices are quite competitive with other similar places here in Colorado. That’s why my husband and I thought that maybe this restaurant has a new management or owner now because of the big improvements that we’ve seen tonight (just like the “new” GW Supermarket nearby that improves a lot under the new owner).
Hopefully, these good business practice will continue and many more improvements will follow. Maybe, they can slowly renovate the place, so it is with better ambiance and also the floor size will be fully utilize coz’ the center part of the restaurant (where the tables without the stove are located) is not really used. Maybe, they can put a long table in that instead for those customers in a big group coz’ usually people visiting this kind of restaurants are going there for the AYCE Korean BBQ not the ala carte menu.
But for now, my husband and I are quite happy that finally there is an AYCE KBBQ near our place that is worth visiting...
