Saw the now open sign and dropped in for a quick visit. Surprisingly nice inside, not what I expected at all. Bar area has a lot of interesting options, from Korean soji to Japanese whisky to Chinese baijiu, plus the normal smattering of vodka/tequila/gin/whiskey, and 4 local beers on draft.
Menu setup is similar to a sushi place, a single page with a marker to put down what you want. I went with the dumpling roulette (fried) and the spicy soup dumplings, plus a starter of edamame.
Edamame came out quickly, and while there was nothing wrong with it, it wasn't particularly memorable. Then came the spicy soup dumplings. Both the filling and the wrapper had a pleasant spiciness, though it took a fair amount of blowing to cool them off enough to eat. Don't scarf them down without letting them sit outside the basket for a minute or two. They're a little delicate, but well worth it if you take your time loading them into the spoon. Definitely my favorite thing of the visit.
Last to drop were the various fried dumplings. All six had a thick hearty wrapper with a quick fry to the base. I enjoyed all six, but none stood out enough for me to recommend one over another.
All in all, I had a good experience and would love to come back soon with at least one more person so I can try more of the menu without stuffing myself. A few of the entree sized plates caught my eye, especially the braised duck (requires a call ahead) and a spicy...
Read moreTried this place last night after repeatedly seeing videos rave about it. Location and decor is nice. It was a little hard to find our server through the night. It wasn’t busy when we got there, and purposely went a few hours from closing to avoid the rush of people.
Pan fried dumplings were not fully cooked. The dough was still wet on top. They graciously made us a new order that was more cooked (and took it off our bill). This is definitely something they’ll have to work on.
We never received our sticky rice sho mai but we paid for it anyway cause we felt bad about above.
The stir fried green beans were very salty. It smelled and tasted like fish sauce and nothing else.
A different server had no idea what steamed rice was. After some back and forth, he said they have white rice that isn’t fried…. So… steamed rice.
The soup in the pork XLB is literally just pork broth so it’s pretty bland. The skins are very well done though! We would’ve liked a more flavored broth.
We saw some reviews comparing them to Din Tai Fung and we’ll have to say it’s far from it. However, it’s good enough for a place like Colorado that doesn’t have any of these special soup dumpling places. Very good 1 time experience. Very good for people who don’t have a super...
Read moreGreat! I think you should try, but don’t get your hopes too high. It’s not comparative to Din Tai Fung.
What we ordered: -Dumpling roulette -Crab Rangoon‘s -Clay pot chicken soup -Soup dumplings -shrimp shu mai -sweet-and-sour pork ribs
What we thought:
The dumpling roulette: The beef and mushroom one was our favorite, and our least favorite was the vegetable.
The crab Rangoon’s: Really good came with crab meat on the side for me. They could’ve been more filled. They were fresh and we watched them make them while we were waiting For our table.
Clay pot chicken soup- Super, super hot, Healing and tasty. I think they use the same soup base for their soup dumplings….
Soup dumplings- Best Bite of the night!
Shrimp shu mi- textually awful! Worst bite of the night!
Sweet-and-sour pork ribs: They were cooked twice and extremely hard to eat-They were chewy and tiny, so it was hard to eat them off the bone when I tell you I almost ripped my tooth out….
What we want to order next time-
Beef noodle soup spicy cucumber salad Beef scallion roll, pancake Dessert
$123 for 2...
