Some of my favorite barbecue in Austin!
The host at the front of Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden can help you to find seating, and they have plenty of large picnic tables available both inside and outside. If you sit indoors, it’s typically quieter, as with the outdoor seating you can hear the surrounding live music from the popular Rainy Street. We sat inside because we wanted to take advantage of their AC, and we were able to order by scanning a QR code custom for our table, and we were able to pay directly from our phones via Apple Pay.
I will be repeating this order again every time I’m here:
The Smokehouse Elote ($6) is best and most unique corn on the cob I’ve ever had. Thankful that me asking for no cotija cheese on the online order form worked perfectly the first try, and it was brought to me without cheese (I’m lactose intolerant, I’m sure the cotija cheese makes it even more delicious).
Under Smokehouse BBQ, the Sweet & Spicy Pit Ribs ($27) are Limited Availability, as is with most great barbecue in Austin it seems. The description of the sauce was accurate - a delightful combination of sweet and spicy sauce was slathered on the half rack of pork ribs. I loved the taste of the pickles it came with, and it also had pickled onions and pickled jalapeños on the side with it. It came with extra sauce, but I personally didn’t think you needed it.
The Giant Soft Pretzel ($11) was perfectly salted pretzel and was also very good; it was brought out warm and served with your choice of cheese and/or mustard.
I was thrilled to see that they carry my favorite gluten-free & alcohol-free beverage that pairs perfectly with barbecue: Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher in a 12oz glass bottle ($4.50) basically a non-alcoholic light IPA (hoppy) meet-seltzer water. I hope that more restaurants follow and start carrying this delicious &...
Read moreI'm in town for an industry conference and thought our group should check out Banger's based on the online reviews, photos and shear scope of their beer selection. We were not disappointed. Everything was delicious, service was on-point, and the atmosphere was casual, warm, and welcoming. We particularly liked the Smoked Pork Belly & Wild Boar Sausage and the Duck, Bacon & Fig Sausage.
Most amazing of all, though, were the house-made French Fries. Now our group are not just any random fry connoisseurs, we happen to be in town for a potato industry conference representing the world's largest frozen potato producer (aka: French Fries and such...yes, we make French Fries for who you are likely thinking of at this moment). Banger's has, by far, the best house-cut French Fries I have ever had the pleasure of sampling.
I'm sure you're reading this saying, well how hard is it really to make a French Fry, so big deal, right? Let me tell you, there is a lot of science that goes into making truly delicious fried potato products. It's a lot of science combined with a bit of art that provides the exquisite crunch-based texture on the outside with the perfect portion of golden potato fluffiness on the inside of a French Fry. And Banger's has figured out that magic with their chef spending months trialing and perfecting their method. So absolutely try the sausage and delicious BBQ options they are plating up, but don't skip out on those amazing Banger's French Fries. Worth flying into town for those fries, and I know I'll personally be going...
Read more2 years living in Austin, coming from PA we were used to good sausage with that homemade flair. We tried numerous recommendations throughout Austin feeling frustrated, no place had what we craved until Banger's. We were meet with friendly, helpful staff who took the time to give recommendations. The Bavarian Pretzel, although not like a soft pretzel I was used to had a lot to offer. It was hot, fresh, and just the right amount of salt with a crispy crust and soft chewy center, the cheese sauce was rich and creamy but what made the pretzel was the killer homemade beer mustard, they seriously need to bottle this stuff. We shared the wild boar, pork sausage platter, the sausage was out of this world, the casing was edible and it was perfectly cooked with all the right flavors. The sides were perfectly paired as well, the Cole slaw was unique but perfect in cutting the richness of the sausage. The corn on the cob was rather unique as well and tasty. We also never get dessert, however the snickers bar in a jar is something you should not pass up. Everything here is fresh, homemade, and clearly done with love and care. We were told even though they are known for the sausages they have added on a smokehouse with ribs and chicken. The smells there are incredible. We had a taste of home. Although the picnic table setting may not be everyone's cup of tea, we found it to be homey and welcoming. It is a place we will be visiting over...
