This property is very interesting to me in that it was one of Kemmons Wilson’s experimental ones. He had bought this piece of land, which was too small for his standard footprint inn, and he and his architect came up with this round building design opened in 1967. They built many of them across this nation in major cities, but this one was the first. There were a number of unforeseen challenges with the floor plan that didn’t work out too well, and this is a rare one still in the IHG system.| |They have put up a privacy fence between the property and the tacky bunch of roach coaches next door. Not long ago the city had allowed a bunch of these to congregate on a dirt parking lot next door and it was certainly an eyesore. Since this is one of the properties left behind from that era where one would find a Gulf station next to the property, it’s a piece of American roadside history. The OPEC embargo of fall 1973 ended all of that, but this property still has it’s Chevron station next door. Holiday Inn won’t take your Gulf card for a room night any longer.| |I had an appetizer and mixed drink in their in-house restaurant and that too was very good. The gift shop is gone, but the rest of the place has been kept fresh and looking good. The two bartenders running the kitchen were courteous, professional, and accommodating and it was much appreciated. The whole staff from the desk staff to the bell captain has been everything Holiday Inn is supposed to be.| |Without even asking they gave me a top floor room with a stunningly beautiful view of the lake. That too was greatly appreciated, as the weather has been very conducive to travel, and this was a very appreciated little perk.| |The room quality from the beds to the towels, to the furniture was in perfect condition and looks great. These rooms in the capital tower are all small due to the shape of the building. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, and everything the guest is supposed to get was in superior condition.| |I would love to see life sentences for these taggers that deface things such as the elevator doors. The last time I was here they had ruined the inside doors on the elevators. Very obviously, the property had to replace that because there's completely different graffiti on the inside of the doors on this stay. The property should mount cameras in there and prosecute the socks off of those who do this. It's just running the room price up because the property has to pay to fix all that, and it's infuriating.||I've been their customer since the building was erected, and it's still in good condition, and worth the cost. The traffic getting there has become markedly worse, but once you're parked, which they don't charge for, it's a...
Read moreFirst off let me say the hotel is very nice and well kept as far as renovation goes. However my overall stay experience was HORRIBLE. I am a manager for a different property so I expected way more from hotel. The amount of mishaps was out of control. I originally booked my reservation for May 2nd-4th. Due to the weather I called to tell them I would have to rebook and come the following day if they could not move my arrival date themselves , since u was traveling from 3 hours away. The next morning I called after booking my new reservation to make sure everything was correct. I wanted to go ahead and pay so I called and spoke to Terry who said I could do so before checking in. Once I got there she informed me that if I was paying cash that I would need to add a card on file and pay at the end of my stay. I had two rooms Keep in mind this was 8am on 3/3/25 (my new reservation) she told me I could go ahead and check in and she upgraded me to a lake view room. I was very grateful and thought everything was fine I left the hotel to return to my children’s track meet due to that’s the reason we even came to Austin. Around 4pm I noticed that several charges in different amounts were being charged to my card. I contacted the hotel and spoke to Jessica she told me that their were no charges on her end and I explained the conversation me and Terry had about paying cash at check out. Jessica said that was correct and everything was fine around 9pm a guy name nick is banging on the room where my dad and other family was staying saying that we needed to pay now or leave. My children were asleep and so was I. I got out of bed cutting my foot in the carpet due to staples sticking out of the carpet and carpet being ripped. Went down explaining what Terry and Jessica told me. Nick claimed the manager told them to come up and disturb us for this payment they didn’t even try to call just came right up. I paid the cash right then to get back to sleep since we had to be up at 5am for another meet. For 45 mins a baby was screaming in the hallway but it wasn’t aware she was in the hallway alone until I came back out I thought it was a baby in the room next door somehow this toddler was outside the room screaming for 45 mins I called front desk and police and took the baby downstairs where the police was her mother arrived with some story and the next morning I had to go back and forth about my refund and that was the...
Read moreFirst, the staff were all friendly and helpful, except for one of them. she was friendly but not helpful. Our first night the HVAC unit was dripping madly through the ceiling tiles of the bathroom and onto the bath floor. we discovered it late in the night and placed towels and a bucket under it. We alerted the staff fist thing and they said they would send maintenance up. we left for the day and returned to find they had not been there and now there was standing water in the carpet just below the air intake and adjacent to the pass through door to the room next to us.
we contacted the front desk and left for dinner. came back to the leak no longer being obvious over the bath door, but the standing water was still there and getting larger. I asked the staff to get a wet vac or floor fan or something, she said she could not do that as it was not available. I asked if we could switch rooms, but the hotel was full. over the next 36 hours the room began to stink of wet dog and carpet, My wife and I both started having allergic reactions to the wet, all of our clothing and the furniture and the entire room were damp. we were coughing and sneezing. I went to the desk at breakfast and the attendant there found us the only room available to switch to. unfortunately it was right next door and we discovered after the switch and after our day out, that the water was traveling under the mutual pass through door and soaking our side as well. We put down a lot of towels and toughed it out for our last night stay there. It was not nearly as damp/wet to breath, the maid brought in some Febreze type stuff that helped with the smell. as we were leaving the hotel the next morning, I alerted the front desk again about the substandard conditions of the room and our compromised sleep. they apologized most sincerely and offered us a free meal at the restaurant. Kind but of no value since we left for good that morning and the voucher was non transferable to any other Holiday Inn.
On this trip to and from Texas from Colorado, We stayed exclusively at your hotels. all of them were either excellent or very nice....but the Austin location is ancient and sorely needs remodeling guys. frayed and dank/soiled carpet, poor plumbing fixtures, ratty pant peeling. the pool was nice...
