I've always had positive experiences at Batch and I've especially enjoyed their veg options for kolaches. Too often I miss out on kolaches due to not eating meat, and Batch really helps with that. And they reheat well, which isn't always a given with baked stuff.
What specifically drives me to write a review, though, is my nephew's love of Batch kolaches. My nephew D has some eating struggles and hasn't had an easy time putting on weight, but Batch kolaches were something he enjoyed so much his parents could often use them to get him to eat a bit more than he might otherwise. And every little bit really makes a difference with these things.
Unfortunately D had an additional medical issue which required surgery. It was a fairly serious condition that left us all a bit scared, him most of all. He was six at the time. The surgery went great and we were all relieved, but D was still feeling anxious and wary of activity with his new incisions.
His parents knew that kolaches would provide a little bit of mood lightening and that extra sustenance he often needed. He was still under observation and needed to get back to his usual self. So I went to Batch to get kolaches for him as well as for his parents. I thought the folks at Batch might like to hear about the recipient so I told them a six-year-old boy at Dell Children's would be excited about the kolaches, and to my surprise they made me leave without paying. It was a gesture that made our family feel supported.
D and his family had to move away last year, but since I still live in Austin I'm going to find a way to bring him some kolaches sometime...
Read moreWhen I'm not buying for the WHOLE OFFICE, this is THE KOLACHE. They are AMAZING. The attention to fine details makes the difference. Beer and bread making go hand in hand, and Batch takes the kolache a few levels beyond the abundant "McKolache" from the corporate stores that are good, maybe sometimes even great.
I've walked my way through most of the savory (technically klobasnik) and sweet options (traditional kolaches) at Batch. First and most important, each has a dough/bread selection that is selected for the contents. The jalapeno cheese sausage has a blanket of cheddar and pepper baked on to the lightly crunchy bread. The hot link one has an everything bagel topped pastry. I'm not a fan of "fake meat" but the veggie sausage hash brown is actually mind numbingly good. There have been several of the rotating that have graced my breakfast (lunch...dinner...) plates, and the salami pesto was the unexpected best of breed. If you see it, grab one. The fattiness of the salami does not overwhelm, rather it harmonizes with the earthy pesto. The current spinach feta is creamy goodness, and i swear i get a hint of artichoke.
As far as the sweet kolache options, currently rocking a key lime and apple oatmeal option that are both top notch.
Like i mentioned above, I've never been disappointed by ANY kolache/klobasnik option at Batch. Everything has been at least above average, and most have been the best version I've ever had.
Oh. It's pricy compared to factory or lone star. Get over it and get in there, worth...
Read moreWe're so excited Batch is open! We have gotten "To Go" orders several times & were finally able to dine on premises Sunday.
Though it's still pretty warm outside & their backyard tables don't have much shade, it was a lovely time. Staff came out to make sure we had water/refill multiple times while we where there. There were lots of other pups there, and everyone was well behaved & pretty much kept to themselves/their group. The grassy area behind & beside the tables have more shade, if you'd rather have shade.
Our humans hosted some of our friends & their humans the other day & had the idea the night before to serve Batch. They were very nice & accommodating when our human called to inquire about an order for the next morning. [We only ordered about 10 items, and recommend calling 24 hours ahead of time for large orders.]
Everyone really enjoyed the food. Nothing was left; the biggest compliment! Favorites are with jalapeños & the pizza flavors, so far. We're really looking forward to their...
