I have been a frequent client (About once every 3 weeks) of Mantis Massage for about a year now, and I have to say the personnel at this no frills true body works massage studio have been life changing. My job is pretty demanding and takes quite a toll on my body (and it doesn’t help I’m one of the smallest instructors in the company world-wide). Without Mantis Massage, I probably wouldn’t still be able to do the job I love, so I really appreciate everything Kyra and her staff have done for me. So much that even when I move to San Antonio, on my Wednesdays days off I will still make the drive every 3 weeks for my “tune up.”
I initially started seeing Kyra almost exclusively, and she really gets into the troublesome areas. She’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Looks can be deceiving, but be warned, she can definitely make a grown man cry. I have been very hesitant to say yes when she asks if I would like more pressure because even though I probably needed more pressure, I was unsure if I could take it. I remember one time she asked for more pressure and I said yes, and she let out a surprised “really?!” She then tied her hair up and took off her shoes and proclaimed that she “was ready to beat me up.” I’ll be honest, I was scared. That being said, she’s always been able to tear my body down and reconstruct it even better than ever. A bonus is she’s always given me advice on stretching and strengthening. I will always try to have her every other rotation when I visit Mantis.
But she’s not the only amazing therapist at this location, as I’ve seen multiple therapists at Mantis when I forget to schedule with Kyra. My first “emergency” massage session was with Monica. Not only did she work out my troubles when I was in a pinch but she also noted that certain areas of my body was actually overstretched. It turns out a lot of things I was doing was making the situation only worse, and with great advice I have been able to turn it around and help alleviate the problem.
Next in line for an “emergency” visit was with Ash. She targeted a different aspect and helped me with my body’s realignment. Her advice for me at the end of the session was indeed helpful but the most difficult to implement (She told me to not use my thumbs so much and gave me a good set of stretches). For the longest time I’ve been straining my neck and destroying my posture thanks to my dependency on my cell phone. I have a game plan, which is being SLOWLY implemented (since for me it’s very difficult to give up the cell phone). Although she didn’t specifically say cell phone, I’m pretty sure that’s what she was hinting at.
About 3 months ago, I started rotating between Kyra with Kalli. Now watch out for Kalli, she’s a great therapist who gets at the heart of the problem but she is a sales women through and through. I walked in with a wreck body, walked out good as new but with magnesium supplements, UCAN bars, a well-made head band, half a cup of lemonade, some Liberty cards, a scorpion creepy crawly, and an awful tasting “hamburger” from a McDonalds Happy Meal Magic Maker from 1993! All kidding aside, she’s got the elbows of a goddess and works wonders. Well, she actually did clue me in on the benefits of magnesium (and I was definitely lacking) and suggested heat as a form of relaxing my muscles (just not to the point where I burn myself and cause a blister…but that was my own ingenious fault.)
And these aren’t the only amazing therapists, but I’m sure the other reviewers here can clue you in on the amazing work from other therapists that I have heard so much about but haven’t yet tried. You can’t go wrong with anyone here, so if you’ve given up on chronic pain issues without a fix, I highly recommend you schedule a visit immediately with any of the...
Read moreSecond time visiting Mantis for a prenatal massage and I have to rave for a minute about the staff, specifically Becca! I’m 28 weeks pregnant in my third trimester and have been looking forward to this massage for a month. Well today was the Austin Marathon and with so many road closures and traffic build up I was going to be like 20 minutes late to my massage and was stuck downtown. I was literally in tears (hello pregnancy hormones) because I have really been looking forward to this massage and have been having a lot of back pain from the pregnancy. Becca and the studio manager called and texted me and were SO understanding! They let me know that Becca actually had a cancellation right after me so they could still accommodate me and see me today. When I parked, Becca instantly greeted me with a warm smile and opened the door to let me in. She didn’t make me feel rushed and still allowed for me to use the restroom before starting my massage and was still able to give me the full hour. One hour later and I felt like a completely new person! Becca helped relax me, put me at ease, and did a great job focusing on all of my problem areas. I’ve been to other spas and massage studios that are less than accommodating and often times even rude about you being late. Becca truly saved the day for me and took such wonderful care of me! Not to mention all of the props they have for you to be comfortable while getting a prenatal massage are truly top tier. I was extremely comfortable the entire time. Thank you Becca and Mantis Massage offering a sanctuary to pregnant women when we need you most! I can’t wait to be back for...
Read moreI love getting a massage (who doesn't?). But since finding Mantis, I'm in love with getting a massage. And now Mantis is the only place I'll get massages, because life is too short for mediocre self-care, am I right?
I love the whole vibe at Mantis, love the whimsical playful touches on their site and in their paperwork-- they take the job seriously, but they don't take themselves too seriously. I love that attitude! The place is super clean and comfortable; I feel like they've anticipated all our needs and have done everything they can to accommodate them.
I'm sure all the massage therapists are terrific (clearly that's how they roll at Mantis: excellence!), but I've been going to see Sandra, and I don't have enough words of praise at my disposal to describe how amazing she is at what she does. She's incredibly skilled, intuitive, kind, compassionate, helpful. I came to her with carpal tunnel pain and discomfort in neck/shoulder from lots of typing (I know I'm not unique there!), and I felt better even before getting off the table on my first visit! And beyond specific crunchy spots that needed help, I feel a remarkable sense of relaxation and wellbeing after each session. (Thank you so much, Sandra!)
Also, the booking process is really easy, and they offer pre-purchase bundles for a discount. I appreciate that too.
If you already have a massage home you love, then you do you. But if you're looking for one, I cannot recommend Mantis...
