The incredibly shrinking burger. With profit margins seemingly tighter and tighter today in the reasturant industry Dan's has dramatically entered a shift towards their business. Reorganizing their menu staples of yesteryear they no longer serve their chicken fried steak dinners no longer. The burgers have switched from a 1/3 lbs. Patty now to a 1/4 lbs. Patty. The difference in writing doesn't look like much but appearances will make you do a double take wondering if indeed they served you the correct sized burger. They still have the secret formula for cooking these delicate meat discs to perfection. Toasted bun with all the fixns. And you can always grab one for during breakfast hours. 1973 the established year of this now iconic burger institution here in Austin. Dan's has slipped into a slight of a funk with the consumers appetite changing through the years. If they continue to stay behind the 8 ball and neglect to adapt to these new types of food offerings todays customers are willing to eat then it will continue to slide into minimal existence and just another closed down establishment which continue to advance at a high rate. No need to panic Dan's isnt going anywhere anytime soon but without a few tweaks here and there this place may be doomed in the far future

First visit. Kinda busy. Sign says wait to be seated but the server said seat yourself as he points to an open booth. The booth was dirty. Had to clean the table ourselves; then the server came over to clean it properly. They switched servers after we were seated. Not the best customer service. Finally got a smile out of our server after mentioning I was a first timer. Food was ok. It was cold by the time it got to the table. Cold fries. Room temp oatmeal. Not gluten friendly at all. I asked for a breakfast taco on corn tortillas. No corn tortillas....'no corn anything' according to the server. (Her exact words) Burgers anytime of the day which is awesome! Breakfast ends at a specific time. My man said the burger 🍔 was good. It was sloppy but that's the way it should be I guess......he ordered a triple burger with cheese. I wish their atmosphere was more friendly.....but hey....I'm a warm and fuzzy type of person. Others may like that diner style.....I just came to eat, not make friends experience 🤔. My man is a big Dan's Burgers fan. I'm sure we will come again at some point. IDK.🤷🏽‍♀️

Stopped by for a quick bite before going to an event in the area. Walked up and there's two doors at the entrance, the right door is for pickup and the left door leads to the dining area with walk-up ordering. There's about 25 tables with protective partitions in the dining area. The cashier wasn't too helpful when inquiring about their shake flavors. She insisted they are on the menu behind her before I asked her where are they listed. After realizing they weren't on the menu, she rudely stated they only have strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. I ordered the strawberry shake. For the food, ordered a cheeseburger, french fries, and onion rings. After about 10 minutes, they called my name to pick up my food at the window. Food was fresh and had the nice homemade look. The burger wasn't the best looking, but was very good. The fries and onion rings were both crisp and hot out the fryer. Shake was very thick and tasted full of fresh strawberries. Food was great even though the service wasn't.

SO and I have been visiting Austin more often lately and have tried to find some good food places. It's hard. Not because there are not any, it's because there are sooooo many food places!! Anyways, we were hungry. Could not decide on a place and found this one in our way. Place looked a bit dated but not too bad. Had s dining area but, honestly, it NEEDS some attention. Dirty floors and tables did not invite folks to stay and eat. Plenty of folks were waiting for food so we took that as a good sign. Kitchen area can be seen from the dining area and we could tell that that area was well tended. Everyone wearing gloves and the preparation area organized. Ordered couple of regular burgers, small fries, and two drinks (to go, of course). Less than $20! Will not say that they were the best BUT they were dam good! Veggies were fresh and crisp and meat was tender, moist, and flavorful. Fries could have used a bit more salt but otherwise paired well with the burgers. If Dan would get the place cleaned up a bit, i think they would do a lot...
