We were ignored by the waitress. We had to ask the waitress for water several times before she got it. Also she made sure to check larger tables more. We were charged 18$ for a watered down margarita. The food used to be a lot better and is lacking in flavor now. The Mole really had no flavor but mole. I came a year ago or so and it was a completely different place. This time, We came at noon. And they close at 2pm or 1:30? Yet there was hardly any food left and no one was replenishing it. We were charged for the leftovers That had been there for hours. It wasn’t the best. Just not up the standards the rest of austin restaurants are meeting. Also they are plugging it being 35$ to someone else below. We were charged 45$ a person today for the buffet. Maybe the prices went up in 3 weeks? Unsure. So idk where that price is coming from. That’s 90$. Which I am fine with paying if the price matches the quality. But there are more things to critique and I see you being sorta rude to customers below which is so disheartening to see from an owner of a business. The tamales were not the best. Nor the potatoes. They lacked flavor. So did the tiquitoes! I used the sauces and even that was not the same. The pork tamales were lacking in flavor. It was one flavor in each thing and it used to be far more complex. My husband and I both tried and it isn’t just me. My uncle and aunt also experienced this drastic change over the year. Unsure what happened. I’m not trying to attack y’all but I had a different experience prior to this one. And I was disappointment. Sad to not be bad here. It was my...

I had El Meson near the airport and then found out about their location in South Austin. The food is appreciably different between the two restaurants. They share a name and an ability for ridiculously good Mexican food, but not much else. When I got to this location, I was surprised how much nicer it was than the airport location. The decor was great and it seemed like a great place to share a drink and a great meal with friends.

We asked about the differences in the restaurants and the hostess was really helpful in identifying the similarities and differences. She even grabbed the owner (even though the restaurant was busy), who proceeded to walk us through a couple of his favorite dishes. Then, he invited us to the open kitchen to try a couple of El Meson's insanely good "interior Mexican" food. I've never had Mexican food like this. The flavors were incredible and atypical, even for Austin.

We sat at the bar to wait for our take-out order and watched the barkeep make "horseshoe margaritas" which used Herradura tequila, one of my personal favorites. I'm excited to go back and enjoy the cool, calm ambiance of El Meson and try more of their unique dishes. While I don't expect the kind of service the owner gave us on our first visit, it was a unique treat in contrast to typically un-friendly...

We were on our way to eat at this place, however it seem empty/closed. So we decided to walk to OPA (highly recommended). Once we got back to the car, a lady was outside waiting for us, her name is Martha, Marry, or something like that. She claimed to be the property manager. Well she threatened me with towing my car if I ever parked there again. She Obviously was not the property manager since property managers are educated about towing laws such as: There needs to be proper signs in visible areas about enforcing towing in the property, if not then they are held responsible for towing costs. She seem to be a worker for ElMeson since she was sitting in one of the tables from the location. What bothered me is that the location is always empty, there were no cars waiting for parking, there was a lot of open parking spots, so I was not causing any problems. If they want to tow cars thats fine just please follow the law and use the appropriate guidelines for towing. If she doesn't work for ElMeson I would suggest management team to remove that type of unstable people from the property. Please contact me if that person does not represent your restaurant and I will kindly...

This place is so much better than the average Tex-Mex I’ve eaten since I’ve been in ATX! It’s an authentic sleeper little remnant of SOLA of days past. Sunday Brunch is a treat that will make you feel like you’re in Mexico at the hotel breakfast. Fresh papaya and other fruits, elote, fresh made tortilla chips and guacamole that lived up to the “best in..” award. The lady refilling the tamale dish showed me that most of the buffet was vegetarian friendly when I told her I didn’t eat meat. She even made the extra effort to bring over a potato patty fresh from the kitchen when they were ready. I will say I was a bit surprised that my bill was $27 without alcohol so the value I assumed from the charmingly authentic atmosphere was stretched a bit. One of the other reviews noted posting the prices might do well for managing expectations better. Food was fabulous however. This place will still be my new go-to for eating local!

We come to Austin every now and then from San Antonio and this time we happened to stumble upon El Meson. We visited the mexican cuisine around 5 and despite the dead time, we had to wait a long time for the food to arrive. We order chicken and beef fajitas. The chicken fajitas were strange as they were drenched in a red sauce that made it taste a little off but was still good for chicken fajitas. The beef fajita was spectacular dripping with taste and very juicy. The texture was nicely done and the beef was'nt over seasoned. This beef fajita probably kills most beef fajitas in town (including Chuy's and Kerbey Lane). The inside of this restaurant is very modest and family-like, don't go in expecting a full sized restaurant because you will be disappointed. The chairs are alright, not very comfortable.

The food was okay but its overpriced and the service was horrible. We xame in Saturday morning and they had maybe 4 other tables besides ours but everything took a while to come out and it took a while for a server to come over. I ordered the juevos con mole rojo. It was tastey but its a sweet mole recipe, it needed some spice added to the dish and they over cooked my eggs. My friend also had overcooked eggs and his chilaquiles looked unappetizing. The other two in our party ordered the barbacoa tacos, one of the most expensive items on the menu, and when it came out they only got two small tacos. No sides, they both were still hungry and agreed it was definitely not worth the cost.
