Hunan Bistro — Restaurant in Austin

My wife and I went there for dining twice. The food was good considering it's in Texas. So today I tried to order a delivery order for my wife. The front desk was rude and mean!! I tried to ask her about the proper way to order a chief's special dish on Chowbus since it's not on the app. I don't think she even know how that app works. She kept telling me I need to do it thru the app instead order from her. Despite I was trying to tell her all I want is to check out the price for that particular order. After I placed the order and called back to check with her, she just told me the same story and hang up my phone call. I got upset and then called her back, told her she may not quite understand what I'm saying, I would like to speak to the owner about it. Then she told me the boss is too busy to come on the phone. I didn't know what to say at that point, just asked her how could she treat customers like that. She was like, we're busy, sorry( the tone sounds like not sorry at all) then hang up my phone AGAIN! The whole time, we were speaking Chinese, so I guess there's no excuse for the language barrier! I got so angry after all, so I had to cancel the order. I hope she will learn how to respect...

Had high expectations before going since my friend highly recommended it, but it was truly a disappointing experience that I am so disappointed to leave this comment as I seldom do so. I ordered several classic Hunan cuisine and they were not on par with the ones I had in China. Although the taste was not very bad, the flavors and texture were not even close to the real Hunan cuisine. The fish was ok but a bit oily. The thing that annoyed me the most is their staff’s attitude and lack of training. I clicked on their website which shows the message that if we order from MealKeyway, the first order is 10% off. I asked her how to use it, she asked me “what is this” instead with a perfunctory tone and just simply said she knew nothing about it and didn’t even try to ask her colleagues at all, even if after I told her this is literally on the website their owner put on Google Map. Moreover, when we were ready to pay, we asked if we can split the bill, she said no. But then the other young man said he could do it. I guess she just didn’t bother to serve or at least try to help her customers in any way at all. I will never come back nor recommend...

We’ve been loyal customers for years, but our recent experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered the Chongqing-style catfish and waited nearly 50 minutes for it to arrive. At first, it was odd that we couldn’t see any white fish meat, but we assumed it was just hidden under the vegetables.

When the dish finally arrived at 8:55 PM, we each had only one thin piece of meat from the fish’s back before we had to start packing it up. After transferring most of the vegetables into the takeout container, we discovered the shocking truth: the fish head was already detached from the body (even though neither of us had touched it), and there were only a few thin scraps of meat, some skin, and absolutely no belly meat. Even more concerning, there were no spine bones or long fish bones at all, which are normally present in a whole fish dish.

We asked the server about it, and she claimed it was actually a larger-than-usual fish. But what we received was clearly missing major parts—no filet meat, no spine, no structure. It was concerning.
