From the "40 years wandering the desert outside El Paso in a luchador mask" vibe to the 8 days of oil fried latkes, Jewboy burgers melds the deliciousness of Sabbath dinner at bubbe's friend Chico (he's got a taco place)
Hey, that juicy burger is great; but you know what it needs? Delicious latkes. But let's kick them up a notch or two with cheddar and hatch peppers. That's a Yenta, and you can get it with both kinds of latkes (opt for the onion and garlic if you're traditionalist). That's the way I went, sans mustard, because I'm weird I guess. Also had "one of each latkes"on the side with sour cream. I've not found any as good as these in the greater Austin area. They definitely fit the needs, and the second night of Hanukkah was the right time to sate the urge.
My elder son grabbed a puro picadillo burrito, which proprietor Mo wanred might have a little kick to it. I took a chance and didn't alert the son who eats like a monster but has a spice tolerance rivaling most Hoosiers (where the wrong tap water is spicy). He didn't blink, and complimented the flavor without condemning any heat. Big win there. Also his Oreo shake was excellente.
The "little man" aimed small and got a traditional Coney all the way. He loved the chili, despite Mo's cautionary advisory to me "it's Detroit chili and you're wearing a Cincinnati Bearcats logo, you gonna be okay with that?" The little foodie loved the heck out of that dog and ended up eating half my better half's Jewboy Burger for good measure.
The second time Jewboy guest and beautiful young lady who is my daughter rated her "all the way Yenta with Bubbe's OG latkes." She gave it 9:10, apparently "because only G_d is perfect". Juicy, solidly-seasoned beef, with the creamy crunchy potato-y goodness.
The better half opted for the eponymous Jewboy Burger on this her first visit, and found it to be satisfying and massively tasty. She only managed to snag one pin in this best of three match, and tagged out the remains to the younger son, who also gushed praise on the burger, as capper to his 10 of 10 meal rating.
We also team-noshed baskets of fries and tots. I think the tots win that Battle Royale, bringing on the schmutz sauce, or sour cream, or the house spicy ketchup with aplomb. The fries were solid, but in my estimation, just didn't jive as well with the schmutz or cream. Though my elder son had chips and queso, his burrito and shake was somehow able to fill in the grand canyon that exists in his gullet, so they came home with tot and fry friends for a revisit at lunchtime tomorrow.
Everyone left happy. That's a victory.
Also, the wrestling ambiance is a huge win. Gonna be back. Probably more than what is good for me. Mo is a Browns fan, which could be a barrier for this Bengals die hard (and often), but there's always "The Drive". He's an absolutely likable beardo like me (argan oil, sir, forgot to mention using that or olive oil a few times a month), and despite his fandom, makes a...
Read moreWe were in town for the night and finally decided on JewBoy Burgers. After finding a parking spot we walked to the front door and were surprised there was a line… out the door! It was 8pm on a Saturday and 36*! Getting Texans to stand outside in that weather for food should be all you need to know!
On to the food! We ordered The JewBoy, Goyim, Rio Grande Reuben, The Mutt, The Bubbe’s OG Chopped Onion & Garlic potato latkes, tots & onion rings. The JewBoy is the baseline burger where you get to taste the beef and create a baseline for the rest of the burgers. The burger was good but the patty was a little thicker than expected. We thought it was going to be a thin smash patty, and it wasn’t. Flavor was good though. I really enjoyed the Goyim. The pastrami was delicious then add in the mayo, pickles and bacon… ummm yes! I’d recommend this burger to whoever goes here. It wasn’t too much meat with the pickles and mustard cutting the meatiness of the whole burger. The Rio Grande Reuben was good but for a Reuben, we wish it had more sauerkraut. Again the patty was a little thick but overall the burger was flavorful. The Mutt looks insane! The contrasting colors of the queso and chili make this hotdog stand out on its own. The flavor was good, an upscale chili dog with delicious chili (the chili was great!) and some solid queso. One of my favorites from this meal was the chopped onion & garlic latke. The sauce (Schmutz I believe?!) paired perfectly! The sides we got were tots and onion rings. The tots were perfectly crisp and delicious. I did not care for the onion rings, they were too “bready” for my liking. The serving of onion rings was hearty so worth the additional $6. The beer selection was all Austin based and a variety of different styles. I tried the Electric Jellyfish from Pinthouse. It’s a Hazy IPA, I really enjoyed it. Overall we enjoyed our meal, was it worth the wait… yes, but is it the best burger I’ve ever had… no. Our favorites were the Goyim burger, The Mutt, onion & garlic latke, & tots. The staff is super helpful and friendly. I believe we ran into the owner last night, and he was super approachable, asking everyone how their food was and even striking up a convo. He was a super nice guy! Come and support this local ATX business who started in a food truck and are making a name...
Read moreWent to Jewboys for burgers.
We ordered each ordered burgers: three Jewboys, two with tots and one with fries.
The burgers were very good not exceptional. I’d definitely come back but also wouldn’t say the best I’ve ever had. I’d rate a 9/10
The fries my son got were exceptional, the tots were undercooked and not salted. No big deal but worth mentioning in a review. 8/10
Onion Rings were excellent 10/10
The queso was the best I’d ever had 10/10
Bathrooms were clean
At the time of this review, Jewboys has a 4.8. My philosophy is to rate a place and push towards the rating I think is appropriate. I think this place is a super solid 4.5. It’s not a 5 and it’s not a 4. Since it’s above 4.5, I’ll rate it 4 but if it was under 4.5, I’d rate 5 to push the rating towards 4.5
Hope that makes sense
Enjoy everyone!
