For my first visit, I decided to try Rose Gose's brunch menu on a Saturday around 1:00 pm. Somewhat busy but not full, no waiting line.
Although the skeleton of this restaurant stayed the same as the previous two restaurants, they added a few subtle classy touches to the decor. I also noted that they took the front counter out and put a wall between the kitchen and the restaurant. That gives them more space for additional tables.
I also noted the attention to details when my cappuccino was served in a beautiful glass with a side of sugar cubes (as we typically do in Europe) and beautiful silverware and glassware.
I had heard about this new European restaurant (the owner and one waitress are from Belarus - I don't know about the rest of the staff) from my friends at Eurocircle so, as a retired French chef, I had to try it.
Food: Of course, as a Frenchman, I had to try their French plate. It was presented artfully on a large oval plate. My sunny side eggs were served separately. It consisted of a real, homemade, freshly baked, fluffy, and crunchy butter croissant. It was served with truffle butter (honestly, at that price point, I seriously doubt it was real fresh truffles - more like chopped mushrooms in a duxelles and sautéed in butter, cooked then whipped into fresh butter). The salmon rillette was very good and came with fresh smoked salmon. With that came a small, very fresh salad of spring greens with fresh strawberries. I wish there was some dressing on that salad (maybe in a small cup of it on the side) but it went well with the two cheese offered: a slice of camembert (a little bland) and a tasty slice of goat cheese rolled in chopped candied cranberries (lovely). French do love their cheese. To finish it all was a light but yummy chocolate macaron, the way I like them.
All together, the food was very tasty and fresh, which is very important to me.
8/17/204. Additional comment: In my opinion, as a retired French pastry chef, they offer the best croissants in Austin. Freshly baked, light, soft inside, and crispy on the outside. Currently, they offer them only during breakfast and brunch, but if you call ahead and special order them, you should be able to get them just for you.
Wines and cocktails: I am not much of an alcohol drinker, so I passed on that pleasure (for others). I noticed their wine display offered at different prices to please most palates.
Instead, I ordered an almond milk cappuccino (good, strong coffee with well frosted milk) and a Topo Chico.
Service: The two ladies that helped me were very nice and friendly, but the service was a little slow. It looks to me that they could have added one more waitress to serve the outside tables, but it may be difficult to find qualified help these days. It's not a major problem, but I noticed.
Music: a bit loud for my taste but bearable. Besides, I did not have a friend to chstv with me.
Overall, I was pleased with my first visit. I will come back with a friend for...
Read moreI had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, my recent visit did not meet expectations. We came here to celebrate a wedding, and we left feeling very disappointed.
To start, the food took much longer than anticipated to arrive. We ordered the kids' meals first, and they ended up being the last to arrive. When the food finally did come, it was far below the standard I expected. The dishes were bland and lacked flavor, which was especially disappointing given how promising the menu descriptions were.
Additionally, the service left much to be desired. Our server seemed indifferent, and we felt largely neglected throughout the meal. Simple things, like checking in with us to see how we were doing, were overlooked.
What made the experience especially uncomfortable, though, was the overall atmosphere. At one point, there was an exchange with the staff that felt unnecessarily hostile. We had a miscommunication within our group about when to cut the cake, and when we asked a staff member if she could pause for a moment so we could take a picture of the bride and groom with it, she became visibly upset. She mentioned that another part of our party had asked her to cut the cake, which we acknowledge was our oversight, but her frustration was quite apparent and hard to ignore.
The overall vibe from the staff felt dismissive, and it was disheartening, especially since we were a large group celebrating a significant occasion. At times, it seemed as though they were frustrated with our presence, possibly because we were a large, Hispanic group.
I truly believe this place has potential, but sadly, our experience was far from ideal. It’s especially upsetting given we were celebrating such an important moment in our lives. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve both the service and...
Read moreSuch a nice and cozy space! Decided to try this place out for a Friday night dinner and my group had an all around positive experience. Overall, the staff is kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Our server tended our table well and gave us great recommendations on what to try. The desserts here are a hidden gem (I definitely need to return just for that alone)!

Cocktails: They have a nice selection of cocktails to choose from. We tried the No. 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11 cocktails. They all had a beautiful presentation and tasted great. The sweetest of the batch was No. 5. The strongest, both in alcohol and flavor, was the No. 9. The prettiest, although a little awkward to drink, was No. 3!🐦⬛
Appetizers: We had the Roasted Pumpkin with Goat Cheese and Honey + the Mozzarella Sticks. The chunky marinara that was served with the mozzarella sticks elevated what is otherwise a simple appetizer.
Food: We were informed by the server that they had several new items on the menu. Our table gravitated towards the Homemade Carbonara Pasta and Mussels in Cream. No complains, everything tasted great and the portion size was perfect! A heads up, the noodles that were served were almost black in color (I’m assuming squid ink was used, but can’t confirm).
Dessert: The Coconut Mousse was light, airy, and had such a great texture. There’s some matcha cookies mixed in as well as a fruit/jelly that tasted just like mango (could very well be that, but can’t confirm). We also tried the Chocolate Fondant with Ice Cream. This was recommended by our server and was by far the most delicious thing we had. It’s a fudgey and warm cake that has a rich chocolate flavor. Would highly recommend the...
