I'm usually extremely skeptical of juice or smoothie bars - can't I just buy the ingredients and blend it myself (and save $6 in the process)? But when a friend and I were driving by JuiceLand, we decided to stop and finally try it out. And dare I say it, but those fruit and vegetable concoctions were delicious and worth every penny - I'm almost tempted to hire one of them to make juices and smoothies for me all day, every day.
First, the location is awesome - it exudes Austin and is so hipster I love it. It has a ton of cool trinkets, shirts, and other items for sale. Also, there's a ton of area for seating both inside and outside on the patio. The staff is super inviting and really helpful if you want help making a choice from all the great options. Anddd, I might even ditch my favorite coffee shop and opt for JuiceLand instead when I have work to get done because there is free wi-fi!! They know how to steal my heart.
The highlight is of course their fresh juices and smoothies. I'm not a Michael Pollan fan, but man, he would be so proud of me. I'm obsessed with the smoothies and they are a great meal substitute when you're on the go. My absolute favorite is the Tikal - made from pineapple, papaya, supergreens, lime, and mint. MINT. I love mint. Mostly because it reminds me of mojitos, and this smoothie was just as tasty (I didn't know that was possible!). I loved it - the mint really shined through and added so much to the smoothie. There were also real pieces of papaya, which was delicious. I would highly recommend this one.
I also really like the Peachy Green smoothie, which is spinach, kale, apple, and peach all blended together to make some delicious goodness, especially when it's hot outside. It's the perfect summer smoothie. They also have the "regular" berry smoothies such as the Brazilian Kisses smoothie if you don't want to go out on much of a limb, but my theory is, if you're going to pay $5-7 for a smoothie, I say try something new!! Any of their "Next-Level Smoothies" are REALLY good - I recommend Vegetable Kingdom or Morning Sunshine.
The smoothies are delicious, the place is quirky and quaint, the staff is helpful, however, the prices are a bit steep. Although I can't always flush out approximately $6 for a smoothie, JuiceLand is a great treat. Until then, I will attempt to create makeshift JuiceLand smoothies in hopes of...
Read moreI show up at JuiceLand one afternoon about 3:30, and they are very busy with customers, but it's worth the wait. I notice that most people have kids with them, so my guess is this is an after-school rush hour. I can understand why: the parents like the healthy smoothies for their kids, and the kids like them because they are delicious. I relax with my Clementine, a frozen delight of fresh orange juice, mango, and peach, and with the local WiFi, and by the time I look up again, an hour has passed and all the customers are gone except me. JuiceLand's menu also includes shots, with liquids distilled from wheatgrass and other herbs, some of which have as much kick as their alcohol-based analogs, but these are healthy, energizing, often spicy, tea- or grass-based drinks. The shots here won't drive you downhill but up. Among the juices, an array of non-frozen concoctions, I find the XTRA HOLLA PAIN YO! comprising carrot, orange, lime, cilantro, turmeric, jalapeño, himalayan sea salt, and habanero--yes it's painful but life-changing. They also sponsor cleanse programs in which I will stop by the store every day for my daily supply. JuiceLand's vegan menu seems no less exciting as all this, and I can't wait for a month of eating and drinking nothing but what comes across...
Read moreI always come to this Juiceland particularly because of the late hours. I really enjoy that fact. This was my spot to come with my dogs. My dogs and I have always loved Juiceland. They love their peanut butter pup cups or carrot pup cups. I had been coming the past couple of weeks to get them with the same worker who works during the week. Then, I came today and the manager was present and said they don’t do that here. I thought Austin was a dog friendly community? When I moved to Austin 3 years ago, the juiceland employees in South Austin saw my dogs and asked me if I wanted some for my dogs. It’s always been a place I love to bring them. I won’t be coming to this location anymore. All the juicelands in South Austin do it. I hope it’s not just just a North Austin thing that they decided not to do it. I love the juices and smoothies and am a frequent customer. The manager still gave them to me which was nice, but it wasn’t promised for next time, so I’ll be...
