I was taken here by a good friend since he is a regular (the staff’s statement, not his). The place is hopping busy…. like all the time. This is a double-edged sword. It means that this place is popular because it is that good, but it also means that when you want Taco Deli, you will have to wait for it. As the saying goes…good things come to those who wait. I do not remember the manager’s name, but he went above and beyond. He offered us condiments and additional small items to enhance our dine in experience. What did it for me at this location was the same manager’s desire for feedback on new items or redone items (on the menu). We were given a brand-new can of coffee (I think) to try out. All three of us really enjoyed it. Manager appreciated the feedback that we gave concerning the specifics of it and was very happy to have a conversation about the coffee and some of the things that went away from the menu. I had my usual 3 breakfast tacos and this place comes very close to Ken’s Tacos (East Austin) but in my opinion doesn’t beat Ken’s Tacos. The black beans were very good and not burnt. I checked and scraped the bottom of the container to ensure this. The chips and salsa were also top notch and I found out that Taco Deli has a sauce that is a bit on the less spicy side (for me) that I can actually eat without getting red in the face or sweating profusely. Great...
Read moreOne of my new favorites and I'm ashamed that I'd missed out on Tacodeli for so long -- mainly because they only used to be open for breakfast and lunch. Now, they're open until 8 PM every day.
Stopped in early this evening for dinner because I'd always been curious about trying them. Now it's going to be in my regular rotation for several reasons. First, they have a great menu with a variety of taco options. If you don't like their taco options, they also have an option to create your own taco. I created two plain steak and cheese tacos. Quite simply, they were perfectly grilled and seasoned. And the quality of the ingredients is far superior to any taco purveyor I've had in town. My dining companion and I also shared some chips, queso, and salsa. The queso was on point. The roja salsa is thin and takes some getting used to, but is strangely addictive, especially on the tacos.
The staff is super friendly. The lady who took care of us today was patient and full of suggestions for our first time dining at Tacodeli.
It's definitely the best upscale/creative taco...
Read moreTaco Deli, at this location, has really upped their game. The ingredients at this location are so much fresher than other locations and it made me curious if all were now this way. I went and sampled their location north of the domain and realized the Burnet location is just a gem. It's ingredients are so fresh that it makes he flavor experience just pop. Everything my wife and I are felt like it could have been at a high end restaurant. The mole sauce was reduced to perfection, as an example. As restaurants grow, having consistency can be a big challenge. Taco Deli has it nailed at this location. I hope they note what they are doing here and bring it to their other locations.
My one complaint would be their tortillas could be improved. Taco Flats has nailed their tortillas with a much improved version. You can tell the difference in their taste, warmth, and texture. Taco Deli's, by contrast, feel exactly like HEB tortillas. Taco Deli and Torchy's could make big improvements in this area by upgrading their tortillas. Both feel cold, flimsy, chalky...
