Came here with a few friends on a Wednesday night and had a great time. Bartenders were really nice and accommodating, but the standout and most spectacular aspect of this place is the Creole food truck. Best kept secret in Austin. I think they used to have Golden Castle off their back patio, but as of mid-march when we went its a po-boy truck. I was losing my mind so much that I didn't write down the name but I think it's the The Original New Orleans Po-Boy and Gumbo Shop. We ordered a shrimp po-boy before we were about to leave just to try and I have never had a late-night meal so delicious. It's a mystery how they had fresh, soft bread and perfectly crispy and juicy fried shrimp at 1am. All 6 of us had our minds blown by how good it was that we got a second sandwich to take home. They also sell beignets which are out of this world. Little pricey for a foot-long sandwich at $22 but it's quality seafood, and I'd honestly pay $100. New favorite spot since it's not overrun by the college...
Read moreService: the bartenders were kind, other than that I did not see many other staff in the building and didnt have interaction with anybody else. It was kind of a slow night.
Atmosphere and location: I know the east side is being renovated and is supposedly a really cool area, but this part of the neighborhood is still really dark and the parking lot across the street isnt free to use anymore. The design and detail inside the bar was cool. I really liked all the Christmas lights, and the low ceiling made for a cozy feeling.
Product: I didn't have anything special to this business in particular. I just ordered a shot of well whiskey and a draft lone star beer. I asked the staff is they had any suggestion for a drink to try, but they did not have a recommendation for me.
All in all nothing stood out about this spot, the prices are a little high for cheap booze, and the place is empty on a saturday night. There are a few places nearby that had...
Read moreQuality has plummeted here. The frozen bees knees used to be one of the most amazing frozen drinks ever, a goblet that was strong but sweet and creamy, with an edible flower topping it off. Now it’s a smaller, sour, non-creamy, generic frozen drink, no flower. The price on the wall says it’s $10, but when you get your chance back, you find out it’s actually $13 after tax. When I asked about that, the bartender suggested I must be from somewhere else. No, I’ve been coming to King Bee since 2015. Bars are the one place where the price on the wall is what you pay, where they factor tax in. Either way, I’d be happy enough to pay $13 for the old bees knees. What they’re serving now makes me depressed as to Austin’s evolution. Also they used to have bomb pizza, and now there’s just a generic food truck. It’s sad to see how this once cool place has become somewhere no one who’s lived in Austin for more than 3 years would...
