This place was recommended over the original location for mainly a larger beer selection. Parking is challenging and street only. Fair enough this is Austin. We sat at the far left of bar and waited. And waited some more. Mind you, there were no less than three bartenders (using that term lightly here) moving about. I asked the kind ladies to the right to hold our seats whilst we ordered beer as if we were going outside. We ordered two pints beer, the cup of Posole and plantain chips(in house or bag?-made in house was the response). I drank the 40 days and nights, my woman had the lightning wolf. My beer was good but hesitate to call it a west coast IPA. The gods of stone brewing would agree with me. This was more like an American IPA. The wolf was adequate. I mentioned to the “bartender” we were sitting on the end of the bar and no one acknowledged us. She didn’t really care and walked on. This is Austin so maybe it is part of the weirdness. The food arrived at our seats . The posole was excellent; not salty as some places can be and the chips perfect. I would prefer a tiny bit of extra onion and chopped jalapeño to add but this isn’t a restaurant. This was good food and reasonably priced. The plantains were NOTtasty. They were grossly over seasoned with that Tajin powder. It could have been cardboard pieces and would not have mattered. There was no plantain taste. I think my lips were even stained by the tajin. I LOVED the sign “no dogs allowed” before the tap room and shocked it was in Austin. Too many people think they can take an animal anywhere these days. The outside area was adequate for people. There was also an upstairs section...

I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a place I once enjoyed. I was at Lazarus with a group of girlfriends — we’re regulars — just having coffee and catching up. One of my friends had her two-year-old with her and brought a small snack for the child. What happened next was beyond rude and completely unnecessary.
A young waitress with black hair came to deliver our order. She slammed our items down carelessly and immediately snapped at my friend, saying “No outside food allowed” in a harsh, condescending tone. My friend respectfully began putting it away, but the waitress doubled down and barked “Put it away NOW.” Even after my friend explained it was for her toddler, the waitress continued to treat her with a shockingly rude attitude.
I asked to speak to whoever was in charge and was directed to someone named Denis. He claimed to have “already handled it,” but the waitress returned and smirked at us — no apology, no accountability, nothing to indicate even a hint of customer service.
What happened to hospitality? To treating loyal patrons — or any patrons — with basic respect? This place used to feel like a community spot, but after being treated like a nuisance, we’re questioning whether we’ll ever return.
If you value kindness, professionalism, or even just basic decency, you may want to rethink visiting. There are too many great spots around to tolerate this kind...
Read moreI ordered the Mexican Fried Rice with Pico, Poblano, egg and roasted corn. It was the worst rice I've ever tasted-tasted like burnt sesame oil. The rice was slightly under cooked and the corn was dry. It was a large serving. I didn't want to waste my money or the rice so I took all of it home and rinsed it with water in my kitchen sink and lots of orange brownish oil slid off. It tasted much better afterwards so I added my own fried eggs. I got four meals out of it so it made me very happy. The staff was friendly. It's a good hang out place and great for meeting friends there. The coffee was very good. I'll return and try something else on the menu and even order the rice to go. With all the spicy food on the menu a mild tasting rice would be a great addition for balance. Also, my sister came with me and ordered the chicken enchiladas and she liked them. She...
