Polkadots Cupcake Factory — Restaurant in Austin

Ever since the cupcake craze started, I knew I wanted cupcakes at my wedding for the sole reason that they can be prepared fresh the day-of. I absolutely did not want a cake that was made a week in advance and then frozen.

When we got engaged and decided to have a mini-destination wedding in Austin, we knew Polkadots would be our cake vendor. Our friends used them for their wedding, and I thought they were the best cupcakes I've ever had. We were so sure of our decision that we didn't have any other cake tastings, which is the best part of wedding planning!

Olga doesn't usually have tastings on the weekend, but she made an exception for us, since we live out of town, which was so sweet on her part. We tried 5 different flavors and had a difficult time narrowing down which ones we wanted because they were all so good! In the end, we went with honey & chai, dulce de leche, strawberry shortcake, chocolate peanut butter, and chocolate vanilla. We ordered about 20% more cupcakes than we needed, and they were all gone by the end of the night, like I knew they would be. My only regret is not ordering more to take home.

Olga and her team are so incredibly talented and artistic. I "like" Polkadots on Facebook and see the work they do - it's amazing! To top it all off, Olga was so sweet to send me home with some surprise treats, which I didn't discover until the day after...

Olga is the best baker in all of Austin! She is endlessly creative in the flavors and designs she creates. We had to reschedule our big wedding for July 2021, but she still made us a cake for our minimony on our original wedding date of June 2020 and we were so grateful for that. We finally got to have our big celebration and she put together a dreamy dessert spread for us -- a modern bride’s cake, a realistic drum groom’s cake (my husband is a band director and he was so excited about his cake), mini cupcakes in four flavors and two kinds of cookies. It looked beautiful and tasted delicious -- guests were telling me how much they enjoyed the sweets and wanted to know where they were from. The cherry on top is that Olga is one of the sweetest people and kindest small business owners in town. It’s now been a decade of me enjoying her treats, and I look forward to enjoying more of them for other special milestones in the future. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE cupcake place to date! If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be the Black Bottom Cupcake from Polkadots.

I've tried the Strawberry Shortcake, Banana Nutella, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Vanilla Vanilla and Vanilla Chocolate Chip, all really good, but nothing compares to the Black Bottom. SO. GOOD. The cake in all their cupcakes is incredibly moist and the icing is perfection.

My advice for this place would be that if you are looking for something specific make sure to check out their daily specials before heading in. The Black Bottom is not served every day, which I learned the hard way.
