Why do you close during a peak meal time? 7::00 PM is meal time. I’d order at least 4 times a week if you were open till 7:30 or, even 8:00. It’s the only reason I’m giving you a 4.
However, when I have been quick enough to try an order in it’s been great! I’d say 97% of the time they are excellent. Their carrot cake is the BEST! Every once in a while they get the icing wrong but most the time it just a highlight if my day when I get it. It’s almost always hot and fresh. Most of the time it’s delivered faster than any other delivery out there. That includes pizza places. These guys are really one it.
The restaurant, itself, is one of my favorite places to go. It’s been a family favorite since I was a kid in Amarillo, Tx. I moved to Austin in ‘93 and my experience has been really hit it miss with Luby’s. Enter… The Slaughter location!! This place is just the tops!! I’ve been going to this location for 7 years. Their food is always fresh and delicious. My personal favorite meal is liver and onions, candied yams, and fresh broccoli. And carrot cake, of course. It’s been my favorite for over 20 years. And the crew at the Slaughter location nailes it every time!! So flavorful!! It’s always clean and I’ve mostly encountered friendly service people. I enjoy the experience pretty much every time I get to actually go in and sit down.
Nobody is perfect, thankfully, but these folks come pretty close. Just my opinion,...
Read moreI don’t like giving bad reviews, but wow. We’ve tried this location 3 times now for an easy quick meal, and two of the times, including the most recent, the food was actually inedible. My husband and I have come to the conclusion there is just no love and no care about quality. It’s sad because Luby’s growing up was always special and consistently tasty. The fried fish was cold and uncooked in the middle which was super icky as I had been eating it. The server was very kind to switch it out for fried chicken. However, that was so rubbery and overcooked you could hardly chew it. It wasn’t worth asking asking for something else. My husband’s chicken fried chicken was somewhere between bad and mediocre. Stale dried out rolls. Mac n cheese is a far cry from the rich creamy side of yesteryears.Kind of watery and cheap. I think a better and more consistent meal could be had at most any fast food restaurant. Sadly this wasn’t a one off. We’ve been sorely disappointed here before by cold and almost disgusting meals, but I guess our memories from childhood kept luring us back. What the heck happened to this place? Raw fish today was...
Read moreI was planning on ordering delivery from this location for my family. For health reasons I’m on a calorie restricted diet, Lubys doesn’t have an online nutritional guide or post calorie counts on their website but I know they have calories counts posted for each menu item at the actual restaurant. So I called and asked someone who I presume was the manager if they minded checking to see what the calorie count was for the item I was interested in, but rather than helping me the guy taunted me. He said “I dont count calories” “We don’t do that here” “I don’t have time for that” “You can go eat at McDonald’s”
Mind you I wasn’t being rude at all, and I know for a fact that the calorie count for menu items is posted in store. All I wanted was for him to just peak at the in-store menu and let me know. Frankly the person I was talking to sounded like they didn’t even know what a calorie count so I don’t know if they were just confused and thought I was messing with them or something. I like Lubys, so I was real disappointed to be treated like that and will be sure to avoid this location...
