My family and I have been coming here for years, and while the pan dulce has always been okay, I gotta say that lately the staff who pack your bread, the ones who work the register, and even some of the bakers have just the worst attitude.
Every time we pay a visit, the ladies at the front are always so negative, un-expressive, and downright cold. Every. Time. They're always snarky, unfriendly, and you just feel very unwelcome. It gives the impression that they don't like being there, even amongst each other. I don't like how the workers there act towards us as customers, it's almost like they don't like being there. Of course I don't expect full-on fake conversations about how my day is and everything, but they don't even say hello! They just pack your bread, stuff it in the paper bag, and give you your total. Again, this isn't a once-in-a-while thing. I even asked my mom, who's a frequent customer, if she noticed the poor attitude from the female workers (or I guess all the workers in general) and she agrees that no one there is ever friendly. I understand it's tough sometimes to keep a positive attitude, especially post-covid; in fact I worked in customer service many years myself, both in retail and in a coffee shop before and during the pandemic. However, when this kind of negativity is prominent for everyone for the longest time, it REALLY reflects how little management cares about the customer service of their employees.
I've been coming here for so long, and just to see the girls up front be so unwelcoming and so unfriendly is just very disappointing. The employees really gotta get it together and fix their attitude and their faces, because what kind of costumer service is this? I understand this is like the only well-known panaderia in South Austin, but maybe the slightly above average pan dulce isn't worth...
Read moreWell wanted some breakfast Tacos Walked in(unclear which is the entrance) but staggered in People randomly sitting at small tables, none with food so I was perplexed what to do. Sit and order, wait at the front counter under the TV menus to order to go, or what Very confusing I opted to wait under the menus next to the register so I waited and waited till finally a nice lady said something to me in Spanish I informed her I dont speak Spanish so she directed me to another set of registers with no menus or anything back against the wall I told her I wanted breakfast tacos with beef steak and egg She said ohh no we not have that I asked what they have? She said Torta, I said that is fine I will take one She said Let me sheck...... oh no sir sorry we only have egg tacos What a disaster this place is So I ordered two tacos with egg Yeah my morning now has been horrible and it all started here No clear anything, no direction, no menu(what is on it they do not have) and just confusing Only reason they got a two star is because the facility looked clean Typical ATX eatery The tacos where so bad and egg was burned & crispy Bacon was so hard It could crack a tooth but to top it off Everybody in the place was walking out with Tortas and sandwiches of the sorts Eating them and they looked good She told me they had none and all they had was tiny rolled up...
Read moreLots of baked desserts to choose from though they are more on the bready side rather than of the glazed, creamy and fruity variety you would see in Asian dessert stores. But it seems that's the spectrum of traditional Mexican desserts. Large, thick and bready with some usual toppings. There were a few cream-filled pastries and savory pastries to include kolaches.
I collected an assortment of pastries ranging from slices of cakes, short bread cookies, coconut cookies and a warmed puff pastry filled with shredded chicken and potatoes. The taste of them were good, but nothing spectacular... more on the bland side. I think my favorite out of the bunch I bought were the coconut cookies because of the chewy, toasted consistency which was nothing other than a swirled dopple of shredded coconut.
They have drinks you can order too like fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, horchata, etc. It's best to know your basic Spanish greetings and currency as they did not changeover into any English after me misunderstanding the total cost. They do have a menu displaying a picture of the pastry associated with the cost on top of the dessert racks.
Would I come here again? Probably not as this is the 3rd time I've tried desserts at a Mexican bakery and they're all pretty similar. When I want desserts, I want sweet, not semi-sweet. I think I prefer American and Asian sweets over...
