More Home Slice Pizza — Restaurant in Austin

One star for the availability of Mexican Coke (being generous), and one star for the pretty quick turnaround. The older white lady that took our order at the window did not greet us. When I asked one question she answered me like she wanted to add, “You idiot.” Very off-putting. She forgot one bottle of Coke and when we turned right back around to tell her, there was another customer at the window. The cashier asked for my name and then retrieved my Coke. When handing it to me she said, “Sorry,” and I asked if she was talking to me or the other customer and she said, “The other customer.” But then said to me “You’re good….Oh, and I’m sorry.” (So odd) As I was walking away the other customer said Okay! (I’m assuming she was referring to this conversation), to which the cashier enthusiastically answered, “Hey!! How are ya?!” Very different treatment towards us, but has become the norm here in Austin. I could accept an overpriced slice and Mexican Coke, but I draw the line with the take out cashier’s aloofness and treatment. My money is still green no matter how racist this cashier is. We won’t...

Ok... man how have I never reviewed this place?

Oh, Home Slice.... we have known each other maybe more than a decade? You've known me since before I had kids walking Congress and now to almost every weekend seeing both my kids as they grow up. You took my family of 20 in the day after my wedding when we were hungry. You've hosted many of my kiddos birthday parties at your place and always show up for birthday parties at the park. We know we can always just stop by when we're in the hood and my children have come to know you as someone we can always count on.

But for real though, the star of this review is their Italian sub. I can't believe I never knew about this until a few months ago. The bread is a perfect shell crunch housing all the goodness inside. It doesn't overpower the sandwich at all and allows all the other ingredients inside to express themselves. The super finely shredded lettuce is genius making for easy tear off bites. For those of you who don't think you even like Italian subs, I was one of you....

Honestly so sad to write this review after coming to home slice for years. Ordered a veggie sandwich that took a bit too long after brining this to someone’s attention we were assured it would be right out. After getting our sandwich we realized that cheese had been put on it after asking for it without - we don’t eat dairy - and had taken several bites so I went up to let the the person at the register know bc it’s not cool for folks that have allergies and stuff and was met with apathy and they let one of their coworkers - who may have been a manager not 100% sure - know about the situation and they rolled their eyes and went to the back. Wasn’t offered much resolution and no one seemed to care which sucked a lot. I think I would be able to not let this sour my previous experiences with them if someone seemed like they cared about what I brought to their attention but that was not the case and it makes me hesitant...
