My experience with the restaurant started when I called. A human did not answer the phone, an AI bot did. I asked if there were vegan options. It told me there were 2 dishes, so my friend and I went there. (My friend is not vegan, but I am.) I suspect, like with other AI bots, the AI told me what I "wanted" to hear to end the call, rather than giving me the truth. I would have chosen a different place if the AI properly informed me of the limited vegan offerings.
Parking was confusing. There are slots next to the building, but you can't park there. You have to drive into a parking tower. In the tower, the signage was confusing. I parked in a slot, got out of the car, then realized that spot could not be validated when I read the sign carefully while standing next to it. I moved my car to a spot that was eligible for validation.
It was a little weird you couldn't walk into the door near the parking garage, you had to walk to the front of the building to enter.
I tried to order a dish at the counter-cashier, but it turned out, this specific location did not have it. The cashier said not all locations have the same dishes. They had no straight-up vegan dish, but one could be made vegan. Having said I was vegan and to make sure it was vegan, I placed my order.
My friend placed an order, and bought fries to share with me. Upon sitting down, her fries had clearly cheese on them, so I went to order my own fries. A different person from the cashier noticed me walking back to the ordering area, and asked if I needed help. I told him I was vegan and could not share my friend's fries, and wanted to buy my own. The guy said that the fries were made in tallow, so no fries would be vegan. I thanked him for his heads-up and went to sit down to eat the solo-burger.
The bartender over heard I was vegan, and then told me the burger I got had mayo in in, so someone came to take the burger. Perhaps the first cashier did not understand vegans and vegetarians have different parameters. I was disappointed, because I said I was vegan and wanted it served with vegan ingredients only, but at least I did not bite into the burger yet. The food runner also mentioned they had vegan cheese that could be added to the burger, and I accepted that modification. I was pretty hungry, but I waited more. My friend got to start eating immediately.
It would have been nice if the initial cashier helped me order the burger vegan the first time, but at least the other people helped me in the end. I would have preferred vegan fries with my burger too.
I did not like the parking validation system. My friend said it took 3 weeks for the validation charge to be credited to her. It should have never been charged to her and later refunded. It should have been a pending-charge, and that pending charge should have been cancelled.
Overall, I can't say I would go back.
The place is probably fine for meat-eaters. Probably fine if you take an ride-share. Not a great place for vegans or people who drove their...
Read moreWhen I travel, I always get a huge cravings for a juicy burger. This spot looked really good. When I walked in, a staff who was carrying food to a customer quickly spotted me and asked me if I have ever been there. I responded “no” and he said “welcome!” and told me how it is done there.
What you need to do first is to go to the back, and get in line (unless there is no line). Second, place your order at the counter. Third, you will be assigned a table during the ordering process, so go find your table with the corresponding number. Each table has a number card hanging front the paper towel holder. When the food is ready, a staff will bring them over to you. Since I was alone and the staff told me that the bar would be quicker, I took a seat at the bar.
They had total of 13 burger offerings! I ordered “Impossible Burger.” I first ordered it with Sweet Potato Fries, but within a minute, I wanted to see if I can change it to Parmesan Truffle Fries. She talked to a staff and got the order changed…or so we thought. A staff brought out Parmesan Truffle Fries first, and then the burger...with Sweet Potato Fries! I wasn't charged for the Sweet Potato Fries, but the bartender told me just keep them. Thanks!
Now, Truffle fries was HUGE!!! I saw people sharing this fries among two or three people… Obviously, not really for one person, but hey, I loved them so I was super happy with that. Sweet Potato Fries were great too, crunchy exterior with soft interior.
The Impossible Burger is made entirely from plants for people who love the taste of meat. It was simply amazing, if I didn’t know it was “plant based” burger, I would’ve beloved that it was made with meat! Juicy and packed with flavor.
Everything was super filling and satisfying. I was so full, I only managed to finish the burger, and maybe third of the truffle fries. I took back the rest of truffle fries and sweet potato fries back to the hotel. Now, I had to walk about 20 min in the heat under the sun, both ways, but it was totally worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat for their burgers...
Read moreI love Hopdoddy. They have the best veggie burger in Austin-- actually, the best veggie burger I have ever had! Their fries and shakes are delicious too. The quality is always exemplary and the portions, especially of the fries are massive even for America (as an aside, I wish they would bring back some of the old flavours for shakes, especially red velvet cake, which was to die for). They have a huge menu, with something for everyone, and they even make their own gluten free buns (that are actually good). I have been going to Hopdoddy since middle school. Now, having gone to university and moved to London, whenever I visit my hometown of Austin, Hopdoddy is one of the places I absolutely have to go. I miss their veggie burgers so much! (London branch soon, please?! Feed the ex-pats!) I also want to say Hopdoddy was also a huge force in my eating disorder recovery when I was in high school; obviously, the high calorie food helped me gain weight, but more than that, it was food that I really enjoyed eating and loved the taste of. Relearning to go to restaurants, treat myself, and find balance, the shakes were how I learned to "treat myself" after years of anorexia. Now, recovered from my eating disorder, with (unrelated) GI health issues, and training for a marathon, I'm still a fan of Hopdoddy! The service at all Hopdoddy branches always been exemplary. The cocktails are good too (albeit massive) and I love that you can add alcohol to shakes (although, they're good without as well obviously). The atmosphere is vibrant and filled with everyone from business professionals, to athletes after workouts, to families, to basically everyone, all happy and enjoying food, which makes it a fun and friendly place to be. Hopdoddy is pricier than other burger places in town (still cheaper than London) but 100% worth it for the quality of the food! TLDR (the summary): Hopdoddy is amazing and their veggie burgers are the best ever. Bring back shake specials and the red velvet shake. Good for groups of all sizes and takeaway. Open a...
