This place is interesting...it is going for that British pub vibe and has the decor. The menu is a bit all over the place w/american pub fare, brit pub fare, and indian curry options.
After my visit here, I am still not quite sure what to make of it, but the service was great, the food good, and $2 Lone Stars all day every day is always fine w/me.
I ordered the fish n chips (because I had to). I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my fnc prefs since I have been across the pond and had various variations (the good, the bad, and the ugly), but was ruined for anywhere else when I had the best of my life in Newfoundland. That being said, the fish n chips here ranks as "not bad". The fish was very fresh, but the breading was just a bit soggy and the fish not as flaky as I would have liked. It comes w/waffle "chips", which were excellent! I usually eat my fnc w/malt vinegar because most places tartar sauce is the bastard child of mayo and bad intentions. The tartar sauce here, however, was rather tasty, had great consistency and complemented the fish well.
I will say, while it was a novel and just a bit kitschy, I kinda loved the newspaper lining for the fish n chips basket. Sometimes it's the little things.
I can see myself coming back and venturing to try their burger and eventually the curry, but happy to see a bit of "wee...
Read moreThe bartender had some sort of ego deficiency which ruined the visit. When I asked for a hazy beer he said "we have jelly fish" and I said "cool I didn't see that on tap" . And he said "uh yeah, it says jellyfish... ". And I thought, that was rude, but let it go. I went back later and looked at the taps and saw that I was correct, it did not say jellyfish anywhere. I brought it to the rude bartenders attention and he said "sorry I messed up" which was respectable, till he said "it says beer, drink it" so I walked away.
He then tried to overcharge me at the end of the night, which I had corrected with much push back. Overall it was a terrible experience due to that silly bartender.
Edit: I just got notified this had 1k views and it reminded me that I needed to adjust my one star review to better reflect my overall take on the place. I've been back and received much improved service from said bartender. So apology accepted.. And tbf it's one of the better spots based on bang for buck. The food is above average for a bar and the drinks are fairly...
Read moreThis bar used to be called Baby Blues. Blues is still open on the other side but the main bar is now Nosh and Bevvy. As someone who is from the Northeast where there is an Irish Pub every other mile I've seen my fair share of Irish Pubs, Nosh will not disappoint. They've done a great job giving this bar a face lift to make it into an authentic Irish pub experience that I have yet to find at another bar in Austin. It's a nice combination of pub/ restaurant. Lots of room to mingle and chat with folks, while still offering a relaxing bar experience. This is my brothers favorite bar in Austin and we go there every time I come into town. The owner Sam is always right in the thick of things with the rest of his staff which I really admire. All the bartenders are great, but Thomas and Alyssa are my favorites. Great bar area with excellent food. If you're looking for a great neighborhood bar with friends that make you feel like family then this is the...
