The food's just fine here. They're making a living on volume and being lower priced then the quality barbecue joints in town. ($22/lb vs $30/lb) Not in the same ballpark as what you can get in Austin but for a chain restaurant its ok. The brisket is kinda dry and tough. The baked potato is under seasoned (none) and under topped for the size and price. Five Star ratings are coming from out-of-towners, old timers, or parents trying to feed a little league team on a budget, not from people looking for some great authentic Central Texas BBQ. The staff is very friendly. The patio and kids playground area is unusable for eating a meal. There are so many flies that it is impossible to sit with open food and not be swarmed. I get that it's an outdoor patio but if you're going to provide it as a meal area at least throw up some fans or do something to move the air around so all my food is not covered in bugs. We had to pack everything up to go which there are extremely limited supplies to do, no cups for sauce, no closable containers, just pretty much wax paper and paper bags. I made it work but it's pretty disappointing. also less than responsible parents take the opportunity to not pay an ounce of attention to their kids while the kids run around playing like an actual playground and the parents stand around chit chatting like someone is watching their kids. It's no...
Read moreI'm looking for another go-to BBQ joint. Rudy's used to be top-notch (they had even won a Malcolm Baldrige award for excellence): going back almost 20 years, I've brought out of town family and guests here to experience Texas BBQ and to enjoy the quirky & fun nature of the place. But in the past two years, this Rudy's location has gone downhill: more staff than ever behind the counter (both taking orders and cutting) but they are slower than ever, disorganized, not on task. They just seem to be hanging out there together. Please just get me my food! Also, they neglected to give me the beans and creamed corn even though they charged for it. the workers are not as friendly as they used to be. They don't welcome first timers with the "hey rookie" yell anymore the prices have gone up by a lot. Baby back ribs used to be sold by the rack or half rack but now it's by weight and you pay 2x what you used to for one rack only one blue recycling bin remains (for bottles, cups, etc) and the rest are all gone flies, flies, flies buzzing around they removed most of the fun signs, including the lighted "The Worst BBQ in Texas" one.
The food is still quite solid but the customer experience has degraded...
Read moreEdit: I did get an email from a manager that states that they will be updating their online ordering so hopefully we will see a positive change.
All Customers... I would not recommend placing an order online. It doesn't go well. I know it is more so a convenience, but don't waste your money on it. You are better off just going inside the restaurant.
Okay Rudy's. Some constructive feedback for you guys. I ordered a large online delivery order through their site (which is linked with Door Dash). I wrote on 2 different spots that we would like sides of salsa and they left it off the order. The guy on the phone blamed the fact that the salsa was left off the order on Door Dash. Door Dash doesn't prepare the order. You guys do. I even see it written on the bag, so you guys knew you were supposed to do it, but just forgot or failed to do it. I wouldn't write this review, but I'd previously received less than good service yesterday when I called to ask questions about ordering. I was cut off mid-sentence after you'd asked what my question was. Also, it is more so the lack of accountability that I am...
