SLAB BBQ & Beer — Restaurant in Austin

Used to go to the Research location often. Bragged about how great the food and atmosphere is to my hubby. We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was slow and quiet, but it took 10 minutes for the young girl to come to take our order. Something on her phone was more important. We ordered the bbq nachos and the sliders. They were out of the slider buns which was so disappointing. After ordering I noticed how dirty the food prep area behind the counter was. I almost canceled our order and left. We decided to give it a chance. It was hard to find a seat because all the open tables were filthy. There were a lot of open tables and for a slow day the ones not in use should have been cleaned. There was caked on dust on the napkin holder and food stuck on the table as if it has been there for days. The dining room over all looks like no one cleans it. Our food was ready before we could find a clean table to sit. We settled on a table hoping the server would help clean it when the brought out our food. The girl who brought our food literally threw the tray of nachos on the table and dashed off before we could ask her to clean it. We cleaned the table ourselves, ate the food and left. The food was mediocre at best. The service and atmosphere sucked. We live in the BBQ capital (Lockhart) so we're snobby about our BBQ, but love to try other places. Getting my husband to try this place was a challenge, and I was so embarrassed I even recommended dining at Slab BBQ. From the staff behind the counter, who were on their phones the entire time we were there to the dirty dining room, this place is so unrecognizable from the fun, clean, friendly restaurant I used to remember. The food used to be great and now it is barely palatable. Please do better by your customers, especially the ones who dine in person. We noticed a ton of food delivery services picking up orders and it seems that Slab caters to that portion of their business. I don't believe I'll return or recommend eating here to anyone. Lousy food, mouse droppings and decent service.

Went this weekend and ordered brisket nachos. The beer was way over priced and the food came out immediately on a cold tray containing cold nachos.

My wife and I wanted something fresh so we asked if they could give us another fresh one since this was cold. They returned in around a minute with what looked like the exact same nachos just with some more toppings. It was still cold and we only took one or two bites. My wife was pretty upset since it was my birthday and we just wanted a decent meal so she asked if they usually serve it cold and could we just get our money back? They told us yes and that this time they’d make it “fresh”. Idk why you wouldn’t do that the first time but it was nice of them to do that for us. One of the cooks came out and served us our nachos and said on the house. It was lukewarm this time and the brisket was pretty bad. No Smokey flavor and just tasted drowned in bbq sauce.

We were really disappointed in the quality of the food, not the service. We had been here once before and ordered a sandwich after watching this place on triple D and enjoyed it.

The nachos however were lousy and lazy.

Lastly, while eating our nachos we noticed mouse droppings behind where my wife and daughter were sitting and they lost their appetites. By this time we were just extremely disappointed and wanted to get out of there. The mouse droppings looked old so they clearly aren’t paying attention to the details. We will now not be returning to eat here. It seems like they’ve just gotten lazy or given up. I have pictures but am not sure how to post them.

Slab had a pop up thing in Austin for a beer event downtown over the weekend and before I really drank anything I wanted to grab a bite to eat. Because I ate here before and it was good I wanted to get BBQ. I walked up to the table and a older black guy ignored us for a little while then finally decided to turn around to actually say something. All he had was a attitude and proceeded to tell us that they are not open didn't even bother to walk over to us or look at us and then proceeded to act like we never showed up(a simple we will be ready in so much time would of been great) . Safe bet to say we went somewhere else and sure enough everyone else was ready to sell food and was friendly so we didn't bother with slab and for the rest of the day we got food from other people. I'm the type of person who believes in being nice no matter what and it was very clear that guy didn't have anything in control. Not like us not buying the food changed anything but we have no issue never eating here again. There's a ton of BBQ places that are better then slab so honestly us never coming back isn't even a problem and glad to tell people to go to other places. I don't always bother with reviews unless I really like the place or just don't care for it at all. I have had only a few times where service was bad enough I still to this day after years gone by haven't stepped foot in those places this being one of them. Plus let's be honestly who cares if the food is good if you are just going to get attitude when you go or better yet no service at all.
