This coffee shop is local to my work, and it has been great going here for the atmosphere. However, I can’t advocate for POC to spend their money here and I likely won’t come here again, as I had a poor experience with a barista who has long brown hair, a nose ring, and blue or gray eyes. This person, when I came to the register seemed weirdly put off by me from the outset, and when exchanging boiler plate pleasantries this person was stand offish with me. They also intentionally spelled my name wrong after I correct them twice. Imagine just being friendly or having a quick exchange of words and this happens?
This is racism, and the actions were microaggressions. This is something I have seen growing up Indian in Texas, and you bet I’m going to call out this behavior when it happens. For context as well, I have never seen more hatred toward people that look like me than in recent years, and it’s all fueled by blatant hate and memes posted on social media today. This treatment was confirmed as this person was nice to the person in front of and the several people...
Read moreI have been in search of a coffee shop to chill, read, or work. Spokesman South May just be in my top 3. Big indoor area with a smaller outdoor staying area in between buildings. Came in at about 8:35 am on a Tuesday. They were already out of breakfast tacos (bummer) but I grabbed a mushroom and cheese croissant from Sour Duck pastries since I didn't want something sweet. It was croissant-y and ok. I grabbed a cup of drip coffee and the price is the same as other coffee shops with refills being $1.50. I'm sitting near the door and man, this place is busy! Lots of people coming in to grab their cup of Joe and then heading out. I wanted to put in my head phones but damn..the music is super loud so that's a negative. I mean I understand having some background music but this is a bit much. Other than that, I can see coming here to get some work done to get out of the house. Might even come back to...
Read moreI went here for the first time at the suggestion of some friends; what a unique place this is. I started off with a fantastic espresso drink, then graduated up to a pretty decent selection of local brews. While we're there, three different performances ran; It was such an eclectic mix of sounds. There was a reggae show, and then some teachers were doing a hip-hop/rap type of show, and then it finished with what I would call techno tejano for lack of a better term as there was an amazing couple dancing to the sound.
Seating is limited, so definitely arrive early to claim your space as the size of the crowd quadrupled within an hour once the music started.
overall it was a great night of drinking and music that kept me intrigued the entire time; We were only supposed to be there for an hour and stayed for four. while it was my first time at the Spokesman, it will definitely...
