My Dad owned this building and managed it when it was a Weiner King fast food restaurant back in the 70s. I grew up there as a kid after school until close and all throughout the summers long. I think the owner has had it and started Terry’s Seafood and Chicken ever since my Dad closed his own place down here. I went back at age 46. But I went back at age 46 and was standing there in the order area in the front lobby just peering around trying to see in the back as much as I could, and the owner behind the counter off to the side asked if I needed help, as if I was pondering and still deciding on an order. I was just looking around and through the back trying to see what all I remembered from where I was standing. I was just going to leave after a few seconds of gazing. But when he asked me if I needed any help, I told him from behind the customers in the back, “I just came in for a second. I’m just looking around. My Dad had this place years ago. I used to hang out back there in the back.” All of the customers turned around. He said, “Do you want to take a look? Come on back here!” He waved me back and came around and met me and walked me back and gave me a tour, walking me through the kitchen and the back and all through it. Showed me around. He introduced me to all of his workers, still cooking and frying and prepping, and he gave them a quick introduction of me growing up in there as a kid. He let me stay there as long as I wanted. Everyone was smiling and grinning, just very happy and welcoming, nodding, saying hello, smiling away, and everyone was having a good time, allowing me to walk by and through and around, and look around. It was nostalgic and one of the best moments ever. And I will always remember it. Always. Very cool moment. What a great guy. What some...
Read moreSo, I roll into this joint hungry as a hostage in Vietnam. Being from out of town, I find myself in a foreign land surrounded by burnt orange Longhorns and 'Hook Em Horns chicanery. I don't know my way around, idk closing times....sigh, I just don't know much of anything but I knew I was hungry.
Upon entering the establishment, I notice most of the chairs have been put up. The place is near empty & floors are being swept. It's closing time. The gentleman behind the counter was busy when I walked in but was very courteous in letting me know he would be right with me. And not once did I sense he was upset by someone walking in & placing an order when he's trying to close up & go home.
His name is Chris & Idk what this guy is being paid but I promise it's not enough. The food was okay. Nothing special but Chris is/was a damn superstar. He was absolutely first rate all the way around & I recommend this place solely on my interaction with him.
He was polite, engaging & helpful. Yet, his attitude was his greatest attribute. And did I mention his work ethic? I honestly thought the dude owned the place. He's running registers, doing closing paperwork, cooking food and sweeping the damn floors. And yet talked to everyone who walked in the door & made them feel worthy.
I know this a review of Terry's but Chris is the star of this show. Keep up the work my man. And y'all give that dude a raise. Good help like that is...
Read moreI'm sad you have to give such a low rating but I have to be honest. I ate here a long time ago and thought it was really awesome and the prices were really good and just don't get over this side of town too often but today as me and my dad were passing through I ranted and raved about how great it was and how my dad needed to try it and so on. But we were both Gravely disappointed. The only good thing I have to say is that the fries were decent as fries are not really rocket science they give you a whole lot of them I'll give you that but the catfish was dry and had a funny taste to it like I guarantee it was frozen before they fried it up and their Fountain drinks were down so couldn't get any just had water. They serve it with a tartar sauce and a hot sauce both tastes terrible and a dry dinner roll that tastes cheap from a package no butter nothing. No lemon for the fish how do you not have lemon for your fish? That's crazy when I asked him about it he said it was too expensive. I agree with that the whole thing was. I found a menu online said 2025 on it but the prices on the actual menu when we got there we're about double what we saw online. Will not return. There's another really good place just a little ways down the road and it's way better all the lemons you want no...
