I never leave google reviews but I feel the need to share our recent experience at Waltons. My boyfriend and I have had this spot on our list to visit for a while now since we are local and love a good deli/coffee shop vibe. When we walked in we ordered that guy taking our order was so sweet and pleasant and very helpful! My boyfriend got a breakfast sandwich and I did the half sandwich/soup lunch combo, we both ordered coffee and some sweet treats! All the food was outstanding! I’m a coffee lover and the coffee here is great! After we ordered we walked around to find a spot to sit. All the tables upfront were occupied so we went to the side room running along the entire side of the building and it was empty, there was however another employee sitting in that room I guess on a quick break, cigs on the table, scrolling on her phone. At the time I didn’t realize she was an employee. We wanted to be where everyone else was to enjoy the atmosphere of the bakery so we sat at the large table closer to the back of the restaurant that had a note on it that said “only for parties of 5 or more” my boyfriend and I decided to sit here and if a large party arrived we would move since all of the other tables were taken. It seems like an ok option since overall the restaurant was not busy. After we received our food, the girl that was sitting in the other room on her phone proceeds to come over to us and say “you guys have more people coming?” In a very rude tone… We said no, but we just wanted to be in the ambiance where everyone else is. I’m sorry, but way to make a paying customer feel completely unwelcome to sit down at whatever table they choose. My boyfriend and I thought that comment was very rude and not how we should have been treated. I hope this reaches upper management so they can be aware that staff working at their business should make customers feel welcomed and not uncomfortable as to where they choose to be seated. Just overall disappointed in the experience here,...
Read moreThis place is certainly very hipster chic. A bakery/deli built in a stripped down brick building pairs perfectly well with a flower shop that adds just the right amount of color to this otherwise vintage setting.
The word I would describe the food offered at Walton's is "quality". It's not the best food I've tasted but it certainly is high quality food for a decent price. The fact that it is its own bakery gives its sandwiches' an advantage over others. The warm and fresh bread that your sandwich is served almost makes you want to forget that the rest of the ingredients were... well just forgettable.
I had their roast beef with bleu cheese with a cup of their daily special beef stew. Both were enjoyable, but less than memorable. As mentioned before, the fresh baguette that my sandwich was served on made me want to love this sandwich. And if the rest of the sandwich were on par with their bread I would absolutely love this place, but unfortunately it was just meh. The stew was good, well seasoned and had the perfect proportions of meat to vegetables, but it lacked that certain savoriness that would make me crave for it again. To finish off my meal, I decided to pick up one of their ginormous almond croissants. I absolutely love almond croissants, particularly its filling. Walton's almond croissants was the size of a bread plate. Its texture was excellent - light and fluffy and ever so buttery. The only downside to it was that the filling was only in 1/3 of the croissant so while I finished this giant pastry, the majority of the time, my mouth was parched.
Overall I would say that Walton's was good. It has everything in its hand to become great. The quality of its food is unquestionable and the prices are reasonable, but ultimately its missing that final ingredient that would make...
Read moreHard to remember a breakfast this flawless. Everything we ordered hit — not just good, but thoughtful, balanced, and memorable. Here’s the breakdown: • Yogurt & Berries – 4.5/5 Lightly sweet, fluffy yogurt paired with toasted, crunchy granola and perfectly ripe berries. Tart blueberries and a gentle honey drizzle brought balance without overdoing the sugar. Elegant and refreshing. • Avocado Toast – 5/5 The base: toasted yet tender bread. Tangy pickled onions, creamy crumbled goat cheese, and a genuinely soft-boiled egg (moist, not dry!). A touch of pepperoncini sauce added zing without overpowering. It felt elevated and complete. • Breakfast Sandwich (Biscuit + Turkey Sausage) – 5/5 Unreal. The biscuit had structure without being dry or heavy. Herb aioli kept it moist, while the turkey sausage and crisp-edged egg made each bite an absolute flavor bomb. Balanced, satisfying, and perfectly executed. • French Toast – 6/5 (yes, seriously) The best French toast I’ve ever had. Insanely fluffy, not a hint of sogginess or density. Topped with berries and a generous swipe of creamy butter — it was almost dessert, but somehow still breakfast.
We also had a caramel latte and a drip coffee — both solid. But honestly, the food’s the star here. If you’re in Austin, don’t miss this place. I’d come back just for the French...
