Fallout Theater is really a corner stone of the Austin Comedy scene. I started going to Fallout on a whim and soon found myself going literally every week. There's a handful of shows that have such a fun personality but they have a specific Fallout flavor; F* This Week is so cathartic for the story tellers and its just nice to be able to turn a bad-event into something fun. Those performers are really working Magic. Come @me is super fun and just connects with the audience in a very real way that's empathetic and kind but still sharp and clever (and not a roast). TGIFallout, Garage, and so many of the other shows are just real and there’s a looseness and unpredictability to them that makes every night feel different.
I think that's what separates Fallout from the other theaters in Ausitn; they don't just do comedy - they build and connect with the community directly and make a space that's fun and experimental, and personal. Fallout leans into its weird underground bomb-shelter vibe to make a safe space that encourages its performers to take risks and encourages the audience to be involved with the act. Fallout Theater doesn't put on shows to be watched as much as experienced.
The staff are locked into to making a space for people and extremely accommodating for show runners to take a chance. I've seen new shows like 'Whose Slide is it Anyway' go from a concept to a regularly scheduled event that's unique and fun and goofy. Fallout takes chances on people and their entire staff leans into to helping up-and-coming local comics find their feet.
Fallout is part of who Austin it. It's not some world-renowned comedy engine, but it does have world class shows like Jane Austin. Fallout Theater feels local, and open, and a little scrappy.
It’s a place where weird ideas thrive, where new voices are heard, and where the audience isn’t just watching; they’re part of the moment. If you're looking for the soul of Austin...
Read moreWorst customer service ever! This place deserves 0 stars! Drove all the way out from Houston to come see the show. Lindsey Cracker told me," We're sold out." Which I told her I got the tickets 3 weeks ahead of time for my husbands birthday as a surprise. But she decided to sell my tickets to other people. So I asked if they will be generous to place two seats so we can watch the show yet they denied it even after explaining why it was important to watch this show. But yet again they were rude about the situation being careless; so I asked for a refund as well wanting to get the managers contact information which they denied it. Yet how are his employees contacted to come to work? So they tell me he doesn't have a phone number or business card that he can only be reached through Facebook; which I asked if I can have it and they denied it again. They tried calling the cops because they wanted us to leave with no source of manager contact. So my husband started to record for proof of evidence of the conversation and that's when they "tried" to get a manager in contact. Which never happened. Worst place to go! They're in denial for what...
Read moreThis is a great theater to support and a guaranteed fun time! Bonus, the owners and staff are all Austin locals and care about community values like ending bigotry in comedy and protecting public health.
I was so happy to see Fallout Theater reopen this month, and after catching a show this weekend was reminded what a gem of the Austin comedy community they are. I honestly forgot how great it feels to laugh alongside a room full of people. Their improv, sketch, and standup shows are all super funny with an alternative vibe and led by veteran showrunners; the staff are friendly, the drinks cheap, and the décor, rad; plus they have fun classes if you want to get into comedy yourself....
