My family ate Donatos when I was a teen when they briefly had a presence in the metro area and loved the terrific unique cheese blends that bubbled to the crust and really distinct toppings but decades had passed since those locations had closed.
I was surprised to see their names on a familiar roster when searching pizza in the area in an attempt to avoid my disappointment with brands I used to love (sorry, Pizza Hut) and wanted to see if it was the experience I remembered.
Not only are they the same delicious brand I remembered with their unique slices and crisp crust, they’ve even got some really reasonable vegan options with special touches like really terrific plant based sausage worked into their standard menu (cauliflower crusts for our GF friends are available, too). The other options we love in that category require a longer drive or a boring, expensive wait at doughy Mellow Mushroom.
There are great individual serving options and really good larger sizes, too.
🍕 Really thankful for this option being in Avondale Estates and will encourage everyone to give their deliciousness a go. Their slices allow for taking the perfect bite to hit the spot rather than require an overcommitment and need to crash and take a nap. We genuinely cannot wait to order out for some events as the weather gets chillier....
Read moreDonatos is a pizza chain that is known for its thin crust pizzas and its signature sauce. The Avondale Estates location is a small restaurant with a limited parking lot, so it can be difficult to find parking during peak hours. However, the pizza is worth the hassle.
I tried the cauliflower pizza with plant-based sausage, and I was really impressed. The cauliflower crust was thin and crispy, and the plant-based sausage was flavorful and juicy. I also liked that the pizza didn't have a lot of crust, so I could focus on the toppings.
My colleagues who tried the pizza also enjoyed it, but they did mention that they missed the crust. However, I think the cauliflower crust is a great option for people who are looking for a healthier pizza option.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Donatos in Avondale Estates. The pizza is delicious, and the service is friendly. However, be prepared for a challenge finding parking.
The website doesn't work on iPad because you can only see the pizza offerings. This is a bit frustrating, but you can still order online by using a desktop computer or a mobile phone. Parking can be quite tight at this location because there is a restaurant next door and the parking lot is small. If you are planning to go during peak hours, I recommend arriving early or parking...
Read moreThe staff was unaccommodating when my mom tried to apply her coupon for 25% off from email at the Avondale location. She let them know over the phone when placing an order that she had a coupon. When we got to the location she was told the coupon applied to online orders only. The woman that they called a manager said she couldn’t apply it even if she wanted and says sign into the app to use the coupon then walks to the back and starts conversing with staff. My mom gets into the app and is told she would have to place the order again even though we drove 30 mins and the 2 pizzas were already ready. I could go on and on about this experience but needless to say we ended up paying full price who wants to wait another 25 mins just to utilize a coupon. On top of that my mom was charged a $7 tip due to her not seeing the pre calculated tip at on the bottom screen of the card reader. They would not refund the tip. One last point to make is customer service in Atlanta and surrounding cities is very poor when the staff is 100% black or predominantly black. You are met with attitude and hostility majority of the time. (These are my experiences and opinions, to those who haven’t had those experiences...
