Y'all, this place is the business! I have gotten to the point where I can not stand pizza from the national pizza chains. So, I had been on a quest to find some good pizza. My former Supervisor turned me on to this spot. I love their pizza! They are a little pricier than what I would typically pay, but man are they worth every penny.
I always get a medium Avondale Avalanche ($18.25). And according to their menu...Sausage, ground beef, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, pepperoni, black & green olives, roma tomatoes, bacon and extra cheese. Me: Minus the ground beef and mushrooms. (I like mushrooms, but once I was delivered the wrong pizza from Pizza Hut, and it was filled to the brim with mushrooms. Yuck! I have been turned off from mushrooms on pizza ever since). The pizza sauce has substance and not overpowering. I can actually taste spices in it. I also ask for the pizza to be cooked well done and by golly gee...It always is.
The pizza comes in 6 large slices which I always cut into 2 smaller slices, per slice. Does that make sense?
You know how some pizza places have a lot of ingredients and then you get the pizza and it tastes just like cardboard? Well, not at Avondale Pizza Cafe'. Their ingredients are always juicy, flavorful, fresh and distinguishable. Also, the well done crust is chewy AND crispy, along with some of the cheese being golden brown. Awesome sauce!
I have tried their individual slices, spaghetti, salads and pretzels. Meh. The whole pie is where it's at.
This location is also attached to O'Keefe's, a popular pub. You know, if you like that...
Read moreIt's unfortunate that I have to make this review since this is only my third time coming to this restaurant. I have only ever ordered takeout for lunch since I work nearby and I really enjoyed the food the first two times that I ordered. When I came to pick up my order today at around 12:47 pm I went to the counter and the lady that processes pickup orders said she would be right with me. When she came back I typed out my name on my phone to show her what name the order should be under. She looked at me with confusion and I just said that the order should be under my name that I showed her. I only did this because I had a mask on and some people have a hard time understanding what I am saying through it. She then proceeded to get irritated with me and asked what my order was. I am used to just giving my name when I come to pickup an order, but I did not have a problem telling her what I ordered (pizza, fries and a drink) despite her attitude. I know that certain restaurants process pickup orders differently. After I told her my order, she made a minor situation worse by angrily saying that "I can't read minds you feel me?" Before slamming the receipt down on the counter and walking off to get my food. Her unnecessary attitude completely ruined my desire to come back to the restaurant. I didn't even have a desire eat the food that I ordered right away because of...
Read moreMost people don't know this, but Atlanta is a great pizza town. While I've heard of no specific "Atlanta style pizza", we have phenomenal Neapolitan (Varuni Napoli), Chicago style (Nancy's, both deep dish and tavern style), Detroit (Emmy Squared) and haute nouveau (Firepit Pizza Tavern; be sure to try the Unicorn Wings) options, and there are several contenders in the Greek, Indian, and Brazilian pizza segments.
We also have many, many, many "Standard American Pizza" joints (medium-thick crust, tomato-based sauce, mozzarella cheese, and combination toppings with heavier coverage than Neapolitan but lighter than Chicago tavern), but none of them hold a candle to Avondale Pizza Cafe.
APC's "Avondale Avalanche" is an absolute knockout. You'll be halfway through a large before you even think about pumping the brakes, their wings are second only to Twain's Brewpub (mixed hot x lime pepper), and, if you pick it up, your first reaction to seeing other diners' tables will be to kick yourself for not adding a salad to your order.
I'm Chip, known to APC as "medium Avondale Avalanche (add banana peppers, well done, cut into squares), 20 wings (extra crispy, extra wet, hot and lemon pepper mixed), and a Greek salad."
Note; While they don't deliver, they do partner with GrubHub (hopefully Doordash and...
