I have been meaning to get to Backstreet Asia since it opened - was hard to make it out to the West side. Super happy I...1) got to try the food, and 2) expose my friends to Filipino food. We ate family style to ensure they got to taste each dish. I had done a mini tasting of different items, and wanted to recommend these: - Chicharon Bulaklak - The pig skin is fried to perfection and has good crunch and flavor. It's fine on its own, but as usual, I highly recommend using the vinegar to dip it into and a Red Horse beer to accompany it. Makes me very nostalgic (outside of the beer part) of growing up with my Lola and she'd put those out for a snack. - Lumpia - Made in the Lumpia Shanghai style, it had great savory flavor and I almost wonder if the sweet chili sauce was an inhouse creation because it had a bit more kick than the ones in the bottle. 🤔 - Chicken Adobo - Every person's gateway drug 😂 into Filipino cuisine. Her Adobo is more of the gravy consistency, but what I love about her version is that the chicken is crispy but still falls off the bone easily. A little different than the ones I usually have but I'm a very good way. I feel this is the best Adobo in AZ. - Pork Sinigang - More Filipino comfort food! Just delightfully sour, meat tender and the veggies soaked up the flavor very nicely. - Pancit Bihon - I told Lindsay that although I do love her Pancit because it has lots of flavor and a bit of spice, I can't love it above my mom's version but her version is pretty good! - Bulgogi/Korean BBQ Rib - my friend got this for her daughter to go. She stole a bite and said it was very good. - Shrimp Chips - as a pre-appetozer, we got fresh fried shrimp chips at our table. So good! They are expanding currently so they are doing construction BUT they are actively building a good connection to the community. They have standup nights, karaoke night, sometimes they do boodle fights - or Kamayan Feast - events (where they layout banana leaves and have food out on the leaves buffet style but for each pair of people), and they are participating in a West Side First Friday event. They also do their best to accommodate deliveries as far as Maricopa dependent on availability and staffing/check with them first. The pricing is also very reasonable! Please go check them out!

This restaurant is bizarre. I think I get the theme of trying to combine "all" of Asia's most popular dishes but a good majority of them are "Filipino" recipes. The atmosphere was confusing as it was a slightly modern bar with little to anything that denoted to an asian restaurant; more western but whatever. The food though, it's abysmal. We tried the "Filipino" dishes four times, two times ordering from food apps and two times in person. So far, we have been let down every time. The fifth time around, the food resembles nothing like the dishes we ordered, and our delivery guy had to wait nearly an hour at the restaurant to pickup our order. The adobo my mom had this time was pretty much fried chicken with no soup base. The arroz caldo was like eating the canned Campbell's chicken and wild rice soup. Me and my sister got something different this time because of our past experiences. We thought they'd at least do better making Japanese or Korean food, but we were let done again... I ordered "Japanese Curry" and the so-called curry was sweet, orange, and filled with crinkle fries and bits of carrots. I might as well have been eating carrot soup with fries. The katsu chicken was fine but the portion was small. The bbq that my sister got was a dry steak with little taste you'd find in the spice ingredients they use in korean dishes. The sisig.. looked fine but was dry and hard like if I was eating it stale, oh and no egg. Lastly, the garlic fried rice. They nailed it on it tasting like garlic because it felt like I was actually eating the vegetable. I don't know how the owner let's this all go out without checking it. The people who give this place a good review somehow have never tried the real versions of these recipes. If you want real Filipino food go to these places in AZ, Lutong Bahay, Halo-Halo kitchen, Nanay's (Filipino Restaurant), At My Place Cafe, Casa Filipina, and then Tambayan. Last one kinda shares a name with "Flaming pig" but they shutdown and Tambayan took over the location actually. You'll find more filipinos at these locations than Backstreet Asia, not because of location but because of quality and authenticity. Flaming pig was a tragic mess just like this restaurant. In the end, this is the last time we're wasting $100+ on this restaurant.

First time to place an order here. Ordered Pancit Bihon, Calamari, and Veggie Lumpia via online app. After paying $44.94 with a credit card, I received a text message that the Veggie Lumpia is not available. So, I replaced it with Sisig, instead. I arrived at the restaurant and noticed that it was dark inside and the music was loud. I was told that my order will be a few minutes late because of some technical issues with the online app. No problem, I said. But I didn't realized that it would take almost 30 minutes longer. Anyway, when the order was ready, I paid for the Sisig (less the cost of Veggie Lumpia. I checked the receipt and noticed a $1 difference in the price of the Veggie Lumpia. Not a big deal but I inquired about it. The cashier/waiter told me that the pricing is cheaper if I ordered onsite instead of placing the order online. I told him that I paid the online price, therefore, he should have subtracted that price. He gave me the "attitude" and gave a comment that he was working hard doing what he was doing. I told him never mind and I left. When I got home, I was surprised at the small size of serving on the Calamari. A Big Mac sandwich is way bigger, I think. The Sisig was not up to par, either. It was like the cook just fried pieces of pork fat and put a fresh egg with it. It was missing the taste of a proper Sisig. Not a value buy, at all. I can't recommend going to this restaurant. It's too pricey and the food they serve is not good quality. Combined that with a poor attitude and lack of service by the employees.

It’s funny how you find hidden gems without attempting to! Originally walking in just to purchase a coke, I asked what kind of food they had just making small conversation while waiting, upon finding out that it was Filipino food I got instantly excited. In all honesty I was kind of iffy because the Filipino food scene is not as big as somewhere like OC or LA, but I gave it a chance. The menu wasn’t very extensive but it does have Filipino favorites on the menu. I ordered sinigang and sisig, both with pork belly. Starting off with the sinigang, it was TO DIE FOR! The sour the better and it was very sour but not overpowering and the pork belly was amazing because the fats and meat soaked up the broth. It also came with a side of rice. The sisig was wonderful as well as the pork belly was super crispy, I couldn’t believe I’ve been this close to food heaven for about 20 months Chef Lin had told me. And mentioning that, the CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING! I was first met by Christina who provided answers from the jump, she was very nice and really made me feel welcome. I also spoke to Chef Lin and tried the food in front of her to let her know what I thought. And when I was letting her know what I thought she was very receptive and we seen eye to eye on how good the food was! I also met one more person but I didn’t get his name but he was super friendly as well, not to mention it helps when the chefs are Filipino as well! All in all I had a great experience and I will definitely be back, the line should be out the door, please do not look any further. As far as the establishment, it was clean, I was informed that they are trying to make it look a bit more aesthetically pleasing but all I ask for is good food in a clean environment which they nailed both to a tee. They also have karaoke and comedy night! Hope this helps future partakers in a...
