Mandy's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Avondale

Two weeks ago we ate at this facility and everything was absolutely wonderful crispy well done tasted great. The fries were crispy. Hush puppies cooked perfect and just absolutely loved them. The mushrooms were really fantastic. Fish was nice and crispy, but tender on the inside all the food was quality A+ so two weeks later return same time a day on a Sunday almost same exact order and it is absolutely the nastiest food I’ve ever tasted,very rubbery,doughy on the hush puppies, doughy on the mushrooms, french fries limp, fish limp all tasted had a nasty taste, very greasy taste honestly the oil had old taste. so I felt it fair to call the facility and let them know all this as feedback and the woman didn’t apparently like what I had to say ( also this wasn’t the same woman that took care of us the first time) and gave me a complete attitude. She did say she’d rectify it and pay me back if I wanted to bring food back, but the problem is we live such a distance from this place that I was not willing to make the drive back just to get my money back, I was more giving her feedback so that hopefully it could be corrected for future customers sake. She didn’t seem to care. She kept making excuses that her oil wasn’t old, etc. etc., I said well I don’t know what you guys did in prepping it but it made a huge difference for everything with taste and I said that’s why I’m trying to tell you what the problem is for each thing maybe you didn’t let the oil get up to the heat that it needed to be. I’m not sure. so I don’t know that we’ll return, and it’s sad too, because I started bragging about the place the first time to people because I thought we had found a good new fish place. I wanted to leave this review to let others know what happened, so It’s a 50-50 chance you might get good food and you might not, good luck. Our order was around $45, We had gotten the lunch special which was 3 pieces of fish cod, three shrimp,a couple hush puppies fries and then we got side orders of mushrooms...

Verdict: Good, but not great.

Okay, here we go:

I stopped by while visiting the area for work and it was mixed results. On the upside, the prices were great; very fair for this type of food. The portion size was good as well. The digital signage and menu was a plus and even the drink was fairly priced.

In the middle was the quality of the fish. It wasn't bad, mind you. Is was much better than a chain fast food stop that happens to serve some fish. But, it wasn't near the tender deliciousness that can be found at other places around the state who specialize in fried fish. Even the tartar sauce was just okay. Not bad, just not exceptional.

On the bad side though is the facility. If you're going to stay and eat, beware. The table was lopsided, every condiment bottle was so sticky it felt like it had never been deep cleaned, if you look up there's strobing LED lights that are just way too intense, if you look down...just don't look down - the floors haven't been truly scrubbed and polished in a minute. And finally, as a pet peeve, instead of tinting the windows or putting in shades, they chose to cover them completely with curtains, so there's no way to see outside except through the tiny front door.

Overall, it may totally be worth your while to give them a try. They have a drive through, I believe, so you wouldn't have to eat inside of you don't want. But, you might give this a hard pass too. I guess it really depends on how much you love fried fish. They have other stuff too, but that's just a poor business decision. Stick with a small menu of what you do well and do it great. But for what is worth, I hope they clean up the other stuff and get it right. We need more fish and chips places like this in Arizona, I don't want any of...

My husband placed an order over the phone which typically how we always order. Once he arrived to the restaurant, customer service said he order more than what was communicated on the phone. We ordered 2 Mandy Specials and a Kids meal. He was told he ordered 3 Mandy Specials, and extra fry and a Kids meal and the total to be paid was $71. Immediately, my husband corrected her and said that was incorrect and repeated his ordered. She proceeded to argue with him and demand he pay the price quoted because she repeated the order back to him. He agreed she repeated his order but advise that she said it back to him correctly over the phone it wasn't until he got to the restaurant that it was incorrect. She then agrees to remove the extra meal but still says the price is $58. Mandy specials are 11.99 before tax plus a kids meal + a kids Meal at 6.99. How is this $60? He pays, it and realizes she still charged for the extra meal and fries. He addresses her about it and asks to speak with a manager (all calm no aggression) she proceeds to fuss back and forth with him about it. We have never experienced service like this from this location and its unfortunate that this was allowed and a customer was refused a option to speak with a manager because he was told "we don't need...
