Bakersfield is the halfway point to meet our son to return his dog so we’re always looking for a dog friendly restaurant we’ve tried the temblor brewing company and the BLVDso we wanted to try something different Athena’s Greek Café and Grill. When I first called them they said they would setup a table in the back but when we were on our way there we called again and they said NO and the have a sign saying they do allow service dogs. It’s located in downtown Bakersfield and At first it seemed a bit sketchy because we passed a drug rehabilitation home a block away and there was a homeless guy in the parking lot with his bed mattress. It seems the further east you go the worse it gets which is the reason we haven’t tried the Pyrenees restaurant yet. Getting back to the Ray food review the service was great we called in the order ahead of time and everything was ready the prices were a little on the high side we spent over $100 to feed four of us and we had it to go. Here’s a list of what we ordered - [x] two baklava’’s that were delicious $6.50 each [x] twospanakopita $11.49 each, we got them to go and baked them the next day and it was spot on delicious [x] chicken pita $13.49 was OK [x] one order seasoned fries $8.99 OK [x] Chicago style gyro $13.49 OK [x] gyro plate with fries $19.99 OK If you want a five star Michelin Restaurant You’re not gonna find it in Bakersfield however triple D gave it a thumbs up so we thought we’d try it out and it wasn’t bad, So until the next visit we’re probably gonna try the Pyrenees but I hear bikers are welcome so I may wear my motorcycle Harley...
Read moreI ordered my food online. The meal was suppose to be ready by 12:03. I do not expect my food to be ready right on time but the cook/owner hadn't even looked at my order till the girl at the register told him to and this was 5 minutes past the time it was supposed be ready for my pick up. He even got an order out that was placed after I had arrived there before preparing my order. Also, I am aware of most places being short staffed but this place wasn't even half way full and the restaurant is very small and he isn't looking at his online orders either so I know he wasn't busy there. The girl at the register is who ended up preparing my order after asking him to get my order ready at least two times that I know of. I have a half an hour lunch break and I spent 25 minutes of it there waiting for my order. Luckily my boss is really understanding and I was able to eat my food. I got the fig burger that did not live up to the hype and the fries were nothing special. I would of probably given it another chance but the owner doesn't seem to care much about his...
Read moreWent here after watching our 10 year old son in the Veteran's Day Parade. Great food and the people working there were very nice. I had the Souvlaki plate with chicken and my wife had the Gyro. I made the mistake of getting the grilled potatoes to share. I say mistake not because they were bad. In fact they were the best potatoes I have ever had. The Bad is that now I need to reverse engineer them to make for home from time to time, and also bad because they were so dang good that I think eating them and the reaction on both our parts almost constitutes cheating on one another. They were THAT GOOD.
They also have a great selection of after-dinner treats... I picked up some baklava and a couple of their macaroons.
Beware... if you go in here for one thing... you will probably be leaving with several other items.
I really cannot think of anything negative to say about this place and we will...
