Flames Pizza — Restaurant in Bakersfield

This pizza was FIRE. Totally a hit. We are pizza snobs (at least I can admit it lol). The first thing we noticed was the CHEESE. Such a good cheese pull and the taste was top notch. You can tell they know their stuff + good quality cheese. The sauce was good, and the crust was excellent. I ate the crust edges of almost my entire mini pizza. 98% of the time I do not eat the crust edges. That’s how good their crust is. The lunch special is decent; a mini 2 topping pizza, and a drink and wedges, or wings. The wedges had a great flavor to them; we wish they were a tiny bit saltier, but it’s hard to “complain” about something that good. The cashier was friendly; the service was good, just a little on the slow side. It took a little longer than expected for the pizzas to come out, but again, it’s hard to complain when they were as good as they were. Just know it may be a bit of a wait for your pizza! Our food was served with a bottle of ranch and ketchup; the ranch was GREAT. I appreciated that we didn’t have to ask for parm, pepper, ranch, etc. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, something I really appreciate. Definitely recommend this place!

There are several pizza spots that are scattered up and down Gosford/Coffee road, but only one of them stands out of the bunch. Flames Pizza is that place.

When I first ordered from Flames, it was via DoorDash delivery. I was impressed at the quality of the food. Typically, with DoorDash delivery, you expect your food not to be super fresh, but that was not the case for this pizza and wedges.

I thought it was a fluke, so I ordered delivery again and wow. 10/10 AGAIN! I couldn’t believe how well the pizza and garlic bread survived the trip down Gosford without losing its freshness.

Today, I decided to do a pickup order. When I stepped into the restaurant, it was nice and quiet with an NBA game playing on the tv. When I approached the counter, I was greeted by a very respectful and engaging employee who turned out to be the owner. I shared with him how great his pizza is and that I would do him the favor of sharing my experience with others.

Flames is now my go to pizza place. All these franchises and corporate chains up and down the road are NOT equal to Flames. If you haven’t already given FLAMES a chance, you’re missing out. #TreatYourself...

Sadly the new owners have turned my favorite pizza place into one I won’t be frequenting again. I had no idea the owners had changed but found out pretty quick with my latest order! The potato wedges are now sliced super thin and you get the same size of ranch for the large 20 piece wedges as you do the 10 piece wedges. The previous owners would give a small ranch for the 10 piece wedges, and a large ranch for the 20 piece wedges - as is logical! I ordered a delivery, and upon calling the store about only receiving a small ranch for the 20 piece wedges, I was spoken to very condescendingly, and despite my relating that I have always received a large ranch for the 20 piece wedges, he kept insisting I hadn’t - even when I communicated it was the case with the previous owners.

A word to the wise - there are A LOT of great pizza places that serve great pizza - even Indian style pizza - and respect the customer at the same time.
