My family and I have been coming to Sushiko since it first opened, and our experience in the past, it was always a pleasurable experience. We hadn't been there in a while, so we decided to go there for lunch on June 14th (2025). This has to be one of the worst experiences (if not THE worst experience) that we've ever had at a restaurant. The waitress was not only inept, but had almost no knowledge of the menu, she gave incorrect information regarding the price of adding a side of shrimp tempura with confidence, only to discover that she was wrong, she forgot to bring the dipping sauce for the tempura, the ginger and wasabi, my son's vegetables and the miso soup, she didn't listen to details of the order, and when we asked her to correct the error, she said "okay", walked off. We could see that she never even mentioned it to the chef, and when we asked her why she didn't ask the chef about correcting our order, she simply said "I don't know what you want"... I know it sounds like I'm being a bit harsh and berating this poor waitress, but we were cordial and patient, and still left her a tip, but the best (additional) tip I could possibly give is, choose another profession hun... If taking food orders is too complex, I don't know what alternate profession you'd be capable of, but waitressing is DEFINITELY not it! The food this time was somewhat mediocre and the rice had an unappealing taste to it. The chef came over to explain about the error in the order, and was very apologetic, but after we explained (tried to anyway) about the multiple errors in our order, all he had to say was "oh, I'm sorry about that". I have reviewed many places in Bakersfield, (I'm a foodie) and I try to find something positive to encourage businesses to continuously improve and thrive, but I can't think of anything positive to say about this experience other than none of us got food...
Read moreWhen it comes to SUSHI Rolls, Sushiko has that skill mastered. We ordered 2 Bento boxes with the California roll, the spicy California roll, the shrimp tempura roll, & the spicy salmon rolls we also ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl, the veggie gyoza, & the Mama Mia roll. Each roll was delightfully delicious. The miso soup was also pretty tasty. We did take our leftover rolls home, that's how yummy they are. Now, here's why I gave less stars: the teriyaki sauce was extremely salty, the gyoza was over cooked, the spicy salmon roll was mistakenly replaced with a filled of teriyaki salmon (which was also way over cooked & kind of burnt), the tofu in the miso soup was mushy. Also, the women's restroom was not well maintained & both stalls were out of seat covers. They are short staffed, as posted on the door when you walk in & I realize that their specialty is sushi rolls, not the other stuff. With that in mind, I'm willing give it another shot in the future. The waitress was nice & tentative, the pricing was fair, & the music great (something my 35 y/o husband, my 12 y/o daughter & myself could...
Read moreJust off the beaten path of coffee road is this humble and quaint sushi restaurant.
The inside is very clean and well kept. The only reason I gave it three stars, is because it seemed as though the designer could not decide between a Victorian chandelier-esque vibe and industrial. It doesn't really take away from the experience though .
With blacked out windows, The feel inside the restaurant is very intimate. I almost forgot that it was broad daylight when I ate there.
The sushi is on point here. Very well prepared and the presentation was nice. The waitress was very friendly. The sushi chef as well.
The price is on the moderate high side for their specialty rolls. However, if you're in for a quick California roll or something basic like that, at just under $7 a roll, the price can't be beat for the quality.
I will be going here again. And, anybody who enjoys sushi...
