Wake Up! Café — Restaurant in Bakersfield

Food was acceptable and the atmosphere is welcoming but the service for us was particularly poor. Me and my wife are an interracial couple, black and white, not sure which of us the server was displeased with but we were not checked on at all as we watched every other table get the courtesy service that we weren’t getting. When we first walked in, a woman came to the front concierge desk and ignored us until she felt like asking us if we had been helped yet. Then she continued to seem displeased while taking our drink order. After she brought our drinks, we never heard from her again yet she checked on every other table around us. A different woman took our order, brought our food when it was ready and never came back around to ask us how it was or if we needed anything else. Finally, when we were done eating, I decided to look at her until she looked at me just so I could get her attention to bring us to go boxes as we were more than ready to leave this place. When she brought the boxes she said nothing about the check so I took it upon myself to walk upfront where the nice gentleman there helped take my payment and I must say I felt bad for him because I never don’t leave a tip even if the server was rude but I have never been to a restaurant and felt so ignored like...

So far waiting for 13 minutes to have my order taken. Then I was before another customer so still waiting to get order taken. Waitress said she didn't know anything also she wasn't friendly. Seems like she didn't want to be at work. Also table was dirty and seat. Also put in the corner away from the actual restaurant. Wasn't allowed to sit at the counter because worker was on her phone watching videos. Also the corner is very dark and secluded. No interaction from staff. Host was only worried about refilling coffee and not iced tea. Nobody was saying good morning or checking on my iced tea. Also the tea was very weak just enough to say it is iced tea. So others were served before myself when they just came in 10 minutes afterwards I have been here. Waitress doesn't know her section. Also told Waitress that I was allergic to margarine but she brings the biscuit anyways saying that use margarine instead of real butter to put on top. Also they cook the eggs in margarine. So 18 minutes have gone by too get food. Can't eat any of food because of using cheap substitutes. Same owners but different name. Really not worth the time or...

This was an unexpected experience. I was looking for a spot to get breakfast on my way to run errands and happened upon this location. Service staff and servers were very warm and helpful. They were on top of the coffee refills as I ran low. They check on me and I felt very attended to. The food came to me pretty quickly and tasted good. I had chilaquiles which is something that u usually have at other restaurants but this one tasted different than I was used to. It had less sauce than I was used to in the past and felt a little more like nachos than what I have been used to. The salsas and sauces tasted good and the spice level was great. The decor has a bit of a southwest feel which was fun and felt like a nice family environment. It was a nice eating experience. I recommend if you are looking for...
