Let me try to make this review short and sweet:
Ambiance, vibes and the aesthetics of the restaurant was beautiful 10/10. Live DJ music was BLARING! Music does not need to be that loud, they should take into account that some people might have sensitive ear drums. (Especially if it’s not even busy or people dancing) 1/10. Automatic 20% gratuity is crazy, but I’m glad our server was friendly, accommodating and attentive. So she deserved it. Still I rate 4/10 for the gratuity. There’s only like 4 apps and entree options, and entrees were options that I could’ve made at home but better. We ordered the Brussels sprouts which were good, but were missing the toasted sesame seeds. I ordered the “fish wrap” for my entree and nothing was fish like about it lol, not the taste or the look. It was overly battered small fried oyster mushrooms, over seasoned and salty as well. The “crab dip” sauce was ok, there was nothing crabby about it. My friend ordered the chick’n quesadillas and it was underwhelming; stuffed with all the ingredients falling out when you try to pick it up. They only give you a vegan sour cream that had a taste of vanilla extract in it. I will hand it to them the presentation of the food was nice. 8/10 for the Brussels and 6/10 for our entrees.
I would not come back here and will not be recommending unless you want okay drinks and a loud, beautiful, and chill vibed atmosphere. I might want to try Slutty...
Read moreI visited Bar Vegan this past Saturday night around 10:30pm with friends, hoping to grab a drink after dinner. We initially thought the new karaoke bar next door was open, but it wasn’t, so we wandered into Bar Vegan since it was.
I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share. It was honestly depressing to see such a massive, brand new beautifully designed bar, clearly a significant investment, feeling so lifeless. The lighting was so bright and so harsh and uninviting, the acoustics were jarring, the live DJ was playing an oddly mismatched set, and the energy was completely off. There were only 7 people in the entire space, 5 of them in our group. The staff seamed lost and confused with the menu and took a while to get drinks sorted and check sorted.
It felt like someone built an incredible venue and just handed the keys over to a team with no vision or experience in creating atmosphere or community. Why open a place like this without the intention to make it thrive?
Bar Vegan has so much potential, but on a Saturday night, it should feel like something. If it doesn’t now, I’m genuinely concerned it won’t last through the year. Baltimore deserves better, and this space could be so much more with the right leadership and...
Read moreIf I could give Bar Vegan zero stars, I would. Where do I even start? Walking in felt less like going to a restaurant and more like volunteering for a bad social experiment. There’s no ventilation, so prepare to marinate in your own sweat while you wait for staff who couldn’t care less if you exist. The menu is a work of fiction—half the items don’t exist, but they’ll gladly let you order anyway just to circle back 30 minutes later with a mystery bill that isn’t itemized, with an added 16% gratuity for trash service. Translation: they throw on charges like they’re playing a game of “let’s see how much we can scam before they notice.” Try to split the check? Boom—instant attitude. Ordering a drink is an Olympic sport here. You’ll wave, wait, and pray, only to be ignored like you’re invisible. Customer service? Nonexistent. Accommodating large crowds? Hilarious. Everyone around us was grumbling the same thing: this place is a hot mess. I left hungry, annoyed, and lighter in the wallet for no good reason. Bottom line: Bar Vegan is a scam with cocktails. Save yourself the money, the time, and the blood pressure spike. Go literally...
