The food and menu is undeniable but the bedside manner turns me off every time

Each time I’ve visited… I’ve experienced being forgotten about… having to state reminders or waiting after asking for an item (mind you… waiting because the server got distracted and started a conversation with another patron)

What’s turned me off officially was my last visit. Came in during morning/lunch hours… tired from a long morning in court. Just wanted breakfast, a coffee and lunch to go… totaling $50 (included in this was a MANDATORY 20% gratuity)

Paid ADDITIONAL to add toast… they bring toast with no jelly or butter etc… so I ask for some jelly. One server goes to grab it… on their way to grab it… becomes derailed by a side convo so I ask the barista… to which they replied “usually it’s $1 but I’ll excuse it this time”…

Instantly irritated because WHY ARE YOU BEING THAT PETTY and when did places start serving plain toast

You’re charging people a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of the lackluster service… you’re penny pinching your clientele for condiments that should come with the meal… I graciously spent time and money at your establishment for such an experience #Yikes

This was my third time being met with an annoying trigger… so I’m done

Hoping this feedback sparks some kind of reflection on what contributes to an overall positive...

Wow. Massive Gratitude for curating such a beautiful multifaceted space for us to come home to. The service here is outstanding, - prompt, Warm with a genuine welcome. Lattes, smoothies, the best ice Matcha, fresh pressed juices and outstanding cocktails My favorite thing on their tapas menu so far is these delicious smokey greens - amazing. . It’s giving both regal and relaxed. it’s giving Senegal to Gullah sea islands to Benin to West indies. The design is exquisite, effortless – Like if a Seydou Kieta photograph and your great Aunties porch Came together With a flawless playlist. It’s a great spot to work Remotely or to have work meetings during the day or during happy hour. There is awesome outdoor space, nooks and crannies all about this Historic mansion. There are also well curated businesses on the upper floors and gallery space on the second floor. I’ve seen two dope exhibitions on the second floor. looking forward to attending the music event here, a concert, a wedding a party in this Space. They have created something beautiful...

Went here for drinks and let me tell you I was not disappointed. From the moment we entered the establishment we were greeted and made to feel welcomed. Started the evening at the bar where the space is quaint and the bartenders were all so very attentive and helpful with drink selections. Next we were escorted to the dining/gathering area that had a wonderful "Love Jones" like atmosphere. The music was so good, classic hip hop. The volume was appropriate so that you could hear and enjoy it while still having a conversation. I really loved that!! The food was served fast and cooked to order. Everything we had was delicious!!! The staff did such a wonderful job with customer service, cleaning and preparing tables for new guests and creating a intimate and comfortable vibe. I really hope they continue with this same energy!! There is absolutely nothing I can say negative about my first experience here. I look forward to...

Stepping into Mama Koko's is like coming home. As a tenant in the building, I can say with confidence that this place is a true "vibe." It’s a remarkable convergence of coffee, culture, and cocktails, where every moment is a liquid history lesson. The experience goes beyond simple service; it's a testament to the warmth and hospitality that makes you feel like an "elevated family member." They have masterfully honored the global African diaspora through their food, art, and music, transforming a historic late 1800s building into a living, breathing community. It's a place where they've created "new traditions with each raised glass" and where "conversations bloom with each carefully crafted cup." Come for the exceptional drinks and food, but stay for the soul-nourishing sense of belonging. This isn't just a place to visit; it’s a space where community, culture, and connection thrive.

When I first walked in here in July of '24, I almost cried. I don't know how to fully explain it but the energy, the aesthetic, the vibes and the space just spoke to me on a deeper level than I can fully elaborate on. The menu is crafted where there is something for everyone. The smoothies, food and cocktails are made freshly in-house with real and unique ingredients . It's feels so right to be in this space. I even visited during the night time to get a feel of what it felt like and it felt so good! Music was on point, customer service was immaculate. Tassia served me and she was so warm and nice! Jake made me the bombbbbbest cocktail ever! I also had the pleasure of meeting Mama Koko in person which made my entire day. This place has my heart.
