The bar tender ignored my spouse for about 40 minutes before we eventually grabbed the manager’s attention. The F Manager when asked where’s the drink my spouse ordered beat around the bush at first saying “where taking a minute before serving any new drinks”, when I was already provided a second cocktail and not ignored by the bartender my spouse on the other hand only Received one drink for the night. The F Manager then explained after I requested more clarity that, she was refusing to serve my spouse a second drink due to slurred speech, I immediately asked for the check my spouse was visibly offended and upset. When I received the check I asked to speak to the owner who was present behind the bar. The M Owners response to my complaint was simply that he stands behind his staff and that they were trained to look for these things. I informed the M Owner that I wouldn’t have stayed a moment longer and ordered another drink if I knew that his staff secretly cut her off which every establishment has the right to do, but in there indirectness we were robbed of our choice to take our business elsewhere and instead spent the better part of our evening trying to get a drink from his staff. The staff needs to be re-trained, and would benefit greatly from bias training to avoid future me profiling.
I felt profiled by the manager and his team as I am a big black man dating a petite white woman (my spouse), who needs protection from the black man, we were denied dignity or respect to make a decision due to the staffs resistance in being straight forward or honest in their intentions or
I was taking my spouse out on a nice date after she was home all day, with our 2yr old while I was on site working until about 5, it was my turn to put our son down for bed and she help which I greatly appreciated and I could tell she was exhausted, as he apparently through a tantrum earlier that day.
The assertion was made that my spouse had slurred speech after one drink. She has a heavy Alabama/Carolina southern acc which I’ve always loved but other sometimes confused with a drunk baby.
They upset her which upset me naturally, I kept her calm got the check and we went to Elk Room (inner Harbor) to finish the night this was very poor decisions were made and we will not...
Read moreI arrived here shortly after opening on Friday afternoon and luckily found a seat at the bar. It was busy and bustling and the rest of the evening’s crew was rolling in as the many guests were. I was greeted promptly with menus and water. There were so many options in the realm of cocktails I simply couldn’t choose. One of the bartenders, Dan I believe, made the choice for me when asked. Even while they were incredibly busy by this point, the bartender had my cocktail in front of me moments later, aptly named Patiently Waiting, which was balanced, nuanced, and perfectly chilled.
My second drink was their Gin Buck (but I requested a shot of Fernet over top which they happily fulfilled) and it was spicy, effervescent, and refreshing.
My third beverage was their house 50/50 Martini made with navy strength gin. As a martini (and vermouth) connoisseur, I had my socks knocked off.
I enjoy finding other ways to show my appreciation to the staff besides just tipping, and asked what I could do for them to show my gratitude for their hospitality. I was told that I could buy them a bottle of rum (Doctor Bird) and I highly recommend it. They even gave me a taste and it was unique and rich with terroir. Additionally, I left with a bottle of Willet 4-year rye from their retail shelf which is impossible to find in my home state.
The combination of the natural light spilling into the happiest of hours, the staff’s warm hospitality, and the bar’s great menu made a solid first impression on me as a cocktail and spirits enthusiast. While I was only visiting town for a weekend, it is definitely a place I will recommend to others near and far. If and when I find myself in Baltimore I will most...
Read moreThe first time I visited Dutch Courage I went with a large group. We only ordered appetizers and drinks which I thought were delicious and amazing. It was a lovely early summer afternoon and we sat on the outdoor patio which was just delightful. I just took a friend there for dinner on Friday, 19 Sep 2025 and we were underwhelmed by the food. Our waiter, Jamie, was great. They were attentive, knowledgeable, and very pleasant. I ordered the fall arugula salad. I was excited for it but it was totally disappointing. The lemon dressing was so salty I couldn't finish even half of it. It contained poached apples but they must have used way too many whole cloves while poaching and the flavor was overpowering and off putting. Plus they didn't strain the whole cloves out before plating rhe apples so you ended up biting into one which was not pleasant. My second dish was roasted vegetables. Also, disappointing. The parsnips were sliced into quarters which wasn't a great choice because the ends were so overcooked they were like wood twigs. All of the veggies would have benefitted by being tossed in olive oil and a bit of sea salt but instead they were dried out and mostly tasteless. My friend ordered the trout and complained that it had a very vinegar like taste. We weren't sure what that was about. In their defense someone did tell us that it was the first day that the kitchen was preparing their new fall menu so maybe they were still working out the kinks. I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt because I do love the location, the patio, and the vibe, but I hope they can get their act together. Competition is stiff for...
