Food, tikka masala & vindaloo, definitely gets highest marks, 5+++-. The drink orders, though, were a negative 5. Absolute worst ever. We were told “we don’t have that” FIVE times when ordering drinks. They only had one (low) brand of bourbon on hand, and they were out of limes. Drinks were $6 each, not bad, but we were up-charged $1.50 on each drink for mixers and lemon slices…$1.50 for ginger ale and $1.50 for a slice of lemon!! I’ve never seen this done. It was very weird and, frankly annoying. The drinks were also delivered without ice, and it took two tries to get enough ice. Seriously, when I asked for ice the first time, I expected more than three thin cubes! At least there wasn’t an up-charge for that or the extra glass of ice that I requested!!!
Word of advice, stick to wine or beer, but they might screw that up too.
Service was friendly but BAD. We were there from 5:00-6:30 on a Sunday and the place was 100% empty the entire time (that was weird too). We were given water immediately but then the server disappeared and didn’t return for a really long time, not even for our drinks order! I will say that, once our meal orders were placed, the food was delivered quickly…of course, no surprise there since we were the only people in the place. However, after our meals were delivered, that was the end of servjce. I had to seek out our server to ask if we could have another round of drinks.
All told, food was excellent. Service and drink experience was just awful, which is probably why the place...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I have had the chicken tikka masala, naan, and samosas at Mount Everest, Tambers, and Namaste and in our opinion, Mount Everest is by far the best at making this meal in the area. The curry is creamy with several tender chunks of chicken. It is not overwhelmed by tomato-flavor and it is not thin like soup (problems we have encountered at other places). You recieve 2 substantial pieces of naan per order that are warm and soft - easy to pull apart and use to eat up extra curry. You receive 2 samosas per order as well. They are large and full of flavor.
I have had carry out and have dined in at Mount Everest and no matter which way you choose, the food is always going to be hot and delicious! Also, while this is not a cheap dinner, the portion sizes always leave enough for a 2nd meal the next...
Read moreMt. Everest in Hamden is one of my favorite Indian/Nepalese food restaurants in this area! Whenever I'm around, I make it a point to stop in to visit! I used to work in this area and the employees banked with the financial institution I worked for. They invited us to come eat there and we happened to go for my birthday. They gave me a complimentary dessert and stuck a lit candle on my wine glass and sang happy birthday to me! They have always given us the best service and have the best food! Their Samosas are always fresh & have the most flaky, crispy crust! The Nepalese Lamb Saag is my favorite! Their Jalfrese is another of my faves and my friend loves the Biriyani! If you like pot stickers, you must try the Momo's! They're little pockets of deliciousness! Another place I highly recommend is...
