Just reviewing the whiskey (atypical customer). Small but well-curated whiskey selection with friendly staff at a lively spot with wine tastings going on when I visited. There is a small shelf of whiskey here with a more interesting selection than at many larger stores. It was stuff I wanted to try: unusual whiskies from Japan (Kanosuke and Ichiro 111), interesting ASM (Redwood Empire Foggy Burl), scotch (Compass Box Crimson Casks), and rye (Epoch, Redwood Empire, and a Detroit 100% rye called Catchers that I'd never seen before). For such a tiny whisky shop - one hidden inside a wine shop - this is a hidden gem. Almost more like visiting somebody's liquor cabinet, you realize that it's not always necessary to have a warehouse to choose from if the buyer has a good eye. Prices are marked up a little bit but not overly so for such a small local shop. Update: I opened the Catchers Rye and it is a highly unusual but delicious and very compelling 100% rye with complex layers of molasses and quicksilver, thank you to Mt Washington Wine & Spirits for this discovery!

You’ll often find a wine story with Jake Groenke. You won’t find much in the way of esoteric conversations at MWWS. Here the conversations on wine in many ways are transformative and transporting to their place of origin. There he has found dedicated and passionate, small and sometimes obscure wine producers. Almost every bottle of wine I’ve bought here comes with a story and some background. Jake once told me that the wine community is a sharing community. To me this is what the conversation is about.

I love this place!!! The guys and Mallory are amazing, knowledgeable and then some. I feel at home when I am here!!! Wine tastings every Friday from 4-7. You will always leave with a wonderful taste in your mouth AND a whole bunch of new knowledge. TASTE. GAIN. GROW.

We found this gem when we moved here from Seattle. Over the last few weeks, we've found that this is one of the best run little wine shops I've ever visited. 1) There isn't a bad bottle in the shop, I think this is their thing, good wines across a wide range that they personally pick 2) They love wine. They'll explain everything from the rainfall of the region to the story of the winemaker 3) They're a small business with owners and staff who are part of the community - too busy to get to the shop? Call and they can bring the wine or sprits to you.

I hope this review helps you find what you're looking for, I couldn't be more delighted than having this shop in our community and these amazing people and their wines...

We are new to the Mt Washington neighborhood and Mallory, Jake and Ryan were our very first friends! Their Wine Maker dinners have been outstanding and we’ve met so many wonderful and interesting people which have made us feel so welcome! Ryan’s expertise and knowledge of wine is mind-blowing - I’m always in awe and his absolute kindness always puts me at ease, never have I been made to feel bad or put down for asking silly questions like you might expect from other high-end wine shops. I also LOVE the fact that they only sell spirits from local distilleries so it’s great to be able to support local small businesses. This is a wonderful local shop run by the absolute...
