There is nothing better in the Realm of Bread and Pastries than Ovenbird, which boasts two locations (sorry Exeter, the Gough spot is superior). There is ample street parking, exit your vehicle and walk up the ADA friendly ramp to the entrance. Inside you’ll be greeted with a wealth of color: Art on display, the amazing murals decorating the walls and ceiling, the textures and tones of the eclectic but welcoming array of seating options Thoroughly examine the pastry cases, you’ll find sweet and savory (both, please). We have tried near everything here, but the croissants are flaky and crisp. The bacon scone is delicious, especially if you take away and reheat. The dementor pairs well with tomato soup. Moving on to dessert, the seasonal hand pie has an incredibly light, flaky pastry and never disappoints, the opera cake and key lime is amazing. The mango passionfruit scone is also lovely reheated, and not too sweet. You really can’t go wrong here with anything, including their breakfast sandwiches (you had me at burrata). All of this, and amazing people? Yes, regardless of who is there, you are greeted with a genuine warmth and charm—specific call out to Mica, who asks how you spell your name, and still remembers when you’re in again weeks (ok, maybe more like days). If you love great food and people, you’ll be back at Ovenbird again. And again. And again. Fitting back in your vehicle may require adjustment.

Absolutely incredible service by staff, amazing pastries, and the cafe's coffee bar is SO GOOD! I really appreciate the care and consideration that Kodzovi and Dylan put into my espresso each day. I brought friends with me the other day and we basically got one of everything! It was their first time trying Ovenbird so we had a lot of fun comparing the different pastries <3 My personal favorite is the hazelnut fig shortbread (texture wonderland and I ADORE hazelnuts outside of the generic choco-combo). My friends loved the lemon shortbread cookie, citrusy bread (so bright and fresh!) and I think we all agreed the scones were some of the fluffiest, butteriest we've had in a long time... honestly it was hard to not eat everything while we sat there in the cafe! The sandwiches my other friends enjoyed were also deliciously fresh, hot, and packed with flavor. We visited on a beautiful Saturday morning and made it inside right before the rush. SO glad we did cause they can sell out quickly! This flagship bakery location has a warm, eclectic, and inviting vibe. I can imagine coming in to work or read for a bit while sipping my coffee (or two or three). I love how casual it feels and easy it is to move around on my own. When I want a non-fussy, community-loved third space... this location is best!

Visited oven bird for the first time today. I would describe it as a “hidden gem” in the city but with a lot to offer. The space inside is huge with very vibrant and colorful decor. There are tables and “cozy” areas to work or have an intimate meal with friends. We went later in the afternoon, so they didn’t have many pastries to choose from and also the service was very slow as there was only one person working both the main counter and the bar area. We waited about 5 or so minutes before someone came over. We ended up getting the “miso snickerdoodle cookie” & “traditional croissant.” The cookie was soft, sweet, and cinnamon-y. Didn’t really taste the miso too much but overall a 7/10. The croissant was very good! Super flaky and buttery, layers in layers of flavor 10/10. I plan to go back but probably earlier in the day or closer to the opening.
