My favorite Indian restaurant in Baltimore! Their food is so tasty and the prices are very friendly and affordable. The owners are really nice too!
Update: If you are looking for a restaurant to have a casual birthday dinner with a big group of friends and eat really delicious food and feel special without breaking your wallet, this is THE PLACE TO GO 😍
We were a group of around 12 people which is quite hard to find a table in any restaurant tbh, but Sakoon was able to accommodate us at the center of the restaurant. Tysm 💕
Onto the food: DEFINITELY GET THE TANDOORI CHICKEN AND BUTTER CHICKEN AND CHANA MASALA. They are my favorite dishes from Sakoon.
Tandoori chicken: Three giant chicken thigh + leg comes out on this hot skillet sizzling from the kitchen. The meat is so tender and juicy and the meat just falls right off the bone. How do you achieve that by grilling the chicken idk but sakoon can. The tomato? sauce that comes with the chicken on the side is AMAZING. I can eat that stuff just by itself lmao.
Butter chicken: I love their butter chicken because the chicken is so tender and the sauce is so creamy and it just feels like home 🫶
Chana masala: An excellent dish with chickpeas, tomatoes and red onions? Sooooo good. It’s hot but I cannot stop stuffing myself with it and I am kinda a hater of chickpeas 😂 except for Sakoon’s Chana masala.
AND YOU MUST GET GARLIC NAAN. It’s so fresh and hot and there are generous amounts of garlic on the top.
For dessert, I recommend their gulab jamun. There’s some coconut pieces sprinkled on the top and it’s just sooo good. It’s kind of like mini donuts in sugar syrup that kind of crumbles apart and melts in sweetness in your mouth. Soooo lovely. I can eat more than two if I wasn’t so full from the entrees lol
The lady taking the order was so nice too! Sakoon has one of the best service among dine-in restaurants imo.
Using my friend’s scale, Sakoon is worth driving 3 hours for. Thankfully I live right across from Sakoon for now, but in the future , I am more than willing to drive 3 hours for food at Sakoon.
Previous review: I have been going here for weekday lunch buffet which is from 11:30-3 pm Monday to Friday since 3 years ago. The buffet is self-serve and you walk in, tell them you are getting lunch buffet, grab a plate and start loading it with food. The buffet has a decent variety from tandoori chicken, chicken masala, potato fry, chili chicken, chicken biryani, couple curries, and couple vegetable dishes. With student discount it’s around $14-$15 per person which is such a GOOD DEAL. DID I MENTION UNLIMITED CHAI??? Their chai is soooo good that I wish I can bring a large biggest mug I can find and just fill it with their chai and drink from it all day. It’s the right amount of spicy and sweet and just ahhhh soooo good.
I got the butter chicken from a dinner (there is no buffet during dinner, just ordering entrees) and the butter chicken was so delicious! And at first glance it seems like not much cuz it comes in a small pot but I had leftovers and was able to stretch them to two meals. Really good portions. Also make sure to get their garlic naan. It’s a must don’t...
Read moreMy aunt and I decided to stop in here for a late lunch yesterday. We were going to go elsewhere but saw their amazing selections. Walking in, we both enjoyed smell of Indian cuisine that permeated the air. We were promptly seated and given a menu that had wonderful selections of Indian and Indo-Chinese food. The server offered to answer any questions and explained some of the dishes when we asked for details. They gave bread and tahini and . For appetizers we selected the mulligatawny soup 🥣 and vegetable samosas. The soup was delicious and flavorful. I would get more of that soup. The vegetable samosa was a great portion size but was way too hot 🥵. For main entrees we ordered the Baingain Aloo (mild) and the Chana Masala Chole Peshawari (spicy 🌶). They both come with Basmati rice. My aunt explained to the server that the vegetable Samosa was very hot 🥵 and that’s why she requested her main entree be mild. Although the dishes were pleasing to look at, they were too hot 🥵. She was unable to eat much of her “mild spice level” dish because her tongue 👅 was burning. As for me, I made a huge mistake saying spicy 🌶. After about 6 forkfuls I couldn’t eat anymore. I drank 2 of the bottles of water 💦 and was very uncomfortable. The server gave me mango juice to try and tamp down the heat — although appreciated, it did not squelch the inferno. As a result I didn’t really get a good taste. The server apologized and stated their culture is used to the strong spice 🌶 level. I explained that I understand for mine because I said spicy but that my aunt specifically asked for mild and explained why. My review is 3.5 stars because: ✨ menu selection ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✨ pleasant staff ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✨ need more clarity on the level of heat because a customer may not know that mild still may mean aggressive heat 🌶 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ✨ taste - started off really good with the soup 🥣 but didn’t get to enjoy the other 3 dishes (even the...
Read moreThis is a place that I had frequented a handful of time in 2015. It had been awhile since going so my girlfriend and I decided to go for their lunch buffet. The place has changed a lot since I was last there. The venue is generally more appealing aesthetically. However, after sitting down we noticed a bleachy odor mixed with the smell you get from leaving clothing in the washer too long. I said whatever, let's get food. We get over to the bar to be greeted by a dilapidated offering of korma, saag paneer and jalfreezi. The only thing well stocked was the rice and sauces. The small plate dish (pakora) had little friend remains on a plate. The time we arrived to eat was at 1:15 pm. The buffet was offered until 3 pm. In the case of the pakora if you were out and not going to refill the station why would you keep the original tray with weird fried parts and garnish on out. Anyways, we got what was left and thought they would come out with refills. After 10-15 minutes the only refills made were the rice (which needed it the least), naan, the saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. The portion of saag paneer was only fit for two people as well. We were met with rubbery overcooked paneer on top of it all. I tried the chai tea (which was also at the very bottom of the barrel) which taste too diluted and not well balanced in spice. Overall, I was very disappointed in the lunch buffet this time around. I used to like this...
