I've eaten at True Chesapeake once before, but I took my boyfriend there last night and it was one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. It was his last night visiting from out of town, so we decided to go somewhere fun (and I wanted oysters). It was a Sunday night and there seemed to be maybe 5-6 tables in the restaurant, with both bars full. So a bit busy, but not slammed by any means. RC (I think) took care of us. I ordered nine oysters and my boyfriend ordered the broccoli and cheddar soup. And then we waited. And waited. And then RC came back and asked if we had gotten our soup. We said no. And then he took our entree order and said he'd go check on our apps. We received three of the nine oysters I ordered, and then our entrees about five minutes after that. No sign of the other six oysters or the soup. We were about half way through our entrees, and then my boyfriend's soup arrived. We finished our entrees, and then we waited (a theme). I finally was able to get another drink and was thinking about getting dessert, but decided against it because I didn't want it to clash with the six oysters I was still waiting for. The two managers touched our table, but didn't offer anything or really say anything besides "Sorry for the wait, your order is next". After the gentleman manager touched our table and said our order was up next, it was still about twenty minutes until the oysters finally showed up (about 20-30 mins after we had finished our entrees, 40 mins after I'd order them). RC stopped by and asked if his manager had stopped by, we said yes, and he said they'd probably be able to take the oysters off our tab. We get the check, and surprise, nothing taken off. We're pretty understanding when there are issues with the kitchen, but the real kicker was none of the management seemed to really care or want to make our dining experience better just because we were understanding. I understand the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but you should want to go above and beyond for customers whose dining experience was ruined, regardless if they're pulling a full Karen meltdown or not. I will not be going back to TCOC or recommending it to...
Read moreAll was going well when we first entered the establishment. We didn't have reservations, and the hostesses were very accommodating and seated us immediately. Our server was awesome, well versed and gave us excellent recommendations. We were feeling great, until... My husband was offered the opportunity to sample two blended red wines to pair with his entrée, the bartender came to our table with both glasses. The bartender handed my husband one of the glasses and told him it was a chip on one side of the glass, and you could see the chipped glass, along with a line in the glass where it was split. The bartender told my husband to only drink on one side of the glass??? He bought my husband the glass knowing it was damaged, and could've cut his mouth and instead of him not bringing out the glass in the first place, he advised my husband to drink on one side of the glass. We both expressed major concern, and the bartender still didn't offer to replace the broken glass with another glass. We had to express concern and discomfort and ask him for another glass. This was most bizarre and quite inappropriate to be frank, and ultimately diminished our warm initial experience. We couldn't understand why we had to express concern about not wanting my husband to drink from a glass that the bartender knew was broken. More importantly, why bring the glass in the first place, then literally tell us it's broken and still expect my husband to drink from it. Definitely not the experience we were looking for... *UPDATE TO THE RESTAURANT RESPONSE * For clarity, the bartender absolutely KNEW the chip was in the glass. When the bartender came to the table HE alerted US there was a chip in the glass WE did NOT alert him. We expressed concern AFTER he asked my husband to drink from the other side of the glass. Gaslighting our experience is inappropriate, but don't worry we will NEVER return! The response was...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went came to eat here tonight. We had a horrible experience with the manager/owner. This place came highly recommended so we were extremely taken back by his horrible customer service and lack of professionalism.
I ordered the rockfish as an entree. When it came out I took a 3 bites and noticed it was red and had no flavor. I cut the fish in half and it was completely raw in the middle. At this point we told the waiter who said he was going to get the manager. The waiter came back and told us the manager was going to come over then he took the fish back to get cooked. Ten minutes later the waiter came back with the cooked fish, the manager never came over but was lingering by our table. I took a few bites of the fish which still had no flavor. It was not enjoyable. We asked for the check. When the waiter came back I asked if there was anything that could be done and he said he would get the manager. I told him the manger never came over earlier, he was taken back and apologized. The manager then came over guns blazing. We told him about the raw fish and how it had no flavor which he questioned me about how much I ate prior to sending it back. He then said they do not send out raw fish and he disagrees that it had no flavor. He started talking about his margins, how expensive the fish is and how it’s a miracle the restaurant is even open. He went on about how he is usually made aware of this prior to the end and I made it clear we were aware we were told he as supposed to come over to our table earlier but never did. The couple next to us turned to us and said that was crazy. I was completely taken back and turned off by his lack of customer service and professionalism, to find out he was the owner not the manger which explains why it’s miracle the restaurant is open if this is how he runs it. He never once apologized. We will not be returning and do not...
