Barliman's — Restaurant in Bangor

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was strange enough that I felt compelled to share. After a long flight, my fiancée and I stopped in for a quick drink. I casually joked about wanting to get “a little drunk before last call” while ordering my first and only drink, just trying to lighten the mood. The owner, however, immediately took offense and made a big passive-aggressive scene out of it, which caught me completely off guard. I honestly felt a bit of discrimination in her voice because my fiancée and I are Korean - I can't think of any other reason why she would come on so strongly.

I thought I was being cordial and respectful, but her tone and attitude quickly made the entire vibe very uncomfortable. After we left, we actually heard her yelling—not sure if it was about us or something else, but it just added to the weirdness of the whole experience.

I’ve never encountered someone running a business who seemed so inexplicably rude and passive aggressive to paying customers. Just an all-around awkward and unpleasant stop that left a bad taste. Won’t be returning, and I’d advise others to steer clear unless you enjoy being made to feel unwelcome for no reason. Plenty of other bars nearby that are much more fun and easy going. Do not recommend! The owner was so rude and weird. I went to drink with my boyfriend and we stayed a little over 1 AM which we asked the owner and she said she’s fine with it. The owner was passive aggressive the entire night and when my boyfriend says he wants last drink to get drunk before the bar closes, her and this other woman bartender repeatedly said we cannot say “drunk“ because of some federal law. She was so rude and passive aggressive and me and my boyfriend were polite even till the end.
