Easily one of the most underwhelming dining experiences. We were staying in Banner Elk for a week and decided to visit this place on our final night, Thursday June 8th. We walked in and greeted the hostess with a party of six. Her response was, "So, you don't have a reservation?" I was going to respond with, "If we did, wouldn't I tell you?" Instead I simply answered, no, we weren't aware it was recommended. We were seated in an outdoor patio which was okay, though it was going to get cooler as the night wore on but the outdoor heaters didnt work. Apparently, they didn't have gas for them.

Our server was Sidney and she was pleasant and informative about the menu. My party ordered drinks, appetizers and entrees and Sidney brought out two loaves of bread and butter. My wife and father-in-law started with escargot, I had French onion soup and my daughter had a Caesar salad to start. So far, everything was going well until we finished our appetizers and waited for the entrées.

One of my biggest pet peeves when dining out is dirty dishes on the table for a while and then having to pick them up when the entrées arrive. Maybe I'm crazy but, I think that's something that an employee of the restaurant should take care of, pre-bussing a table. Well, that's exactly what happened. Two people other than Sidney came out with our dinners. My wife had to pick up her escargot plates. I had to pick up my French onion soup plates, and you get the picture.

I got the pork chop with mashed sweet potatoes. The potatoes were cooler than warm. Obviously, they were sitting out for a while. I informed Sidney about it. I didn't bother telling her how irritated I was about the dirty dishes. She went to get some hotter potatoes and while she gone, my wife told me her steak was not cooked to her order and my father-in-law said his prime rib was flavorful but not nearly hot enough; as if it too was sitting in the kitchen longer than it should have. Not what you'd expect from a restaurant that advertises itself as being fancy or upscale. We made our concerns known to Sidney and while she was apologetic and asked what she could do, I simply told her to do better for the next party that comes in. There wasn't really anything to do to change a bad first impression.

I was going to say something to the individuals at the front of the restaurant but, no one acknowledged us leaving so I got the idea that no one would really be interested in my feedback.

As I said earlier, this was an amazingly disappointing experience. We had considered going to the neighboring establishment, The Banner Elk Lodge but I was in the mood for a great meal with amazing service. I'm kicking myself for making the...

My family and I went to Stonewall's for Thanksgiving dinner on November 22. There were 5 of us in total. We wanted to break from the traditional cook, carve, consume routine that we do every year. We arrived about 15 minutes earlier than our reservation (booked 2 weeks in advance). Our table had just opened up from the party before us. We were seated immediately. All of the Entree courses were enticing and there were several to choose from. The restaurant was packed beyond belief, but our waiter, Corbin, was very attentive and gave us suggestions. Everyone at the table broke even further from tradition and decided to get steak. At our table, there were 3 Filet Mignon plates, a Sirloin plate and a Prime Rib. All were ordered medium, with various sides. The waiter brought our drinks and some bread to begin while the Chef(s) worked diligently to prepare our 5 entrees. There were several large tables with 10 or more people, so I figured our food would take a little over an hour to get to us. No biggy... we would just munch on the delicious bread and drink our drinks and converse as we waited. To my surprise, our meals made it out to our table in about 35 to 40 minutes and everything looked so good. I have eaten many Filets in my life from several different places, so I was eager to try this one, since I hadn't before. It did not disappoint. I will have to say that it was the best Filet I had had in my 46 years of life. My wife and daughter agreed. I seriously didn't need my knife to eat my steak, because it was the most tender I have ever seen. I really don't know how the Chef did that, but it was spectacular. My parents had the Sirloin and Prime Rib. They boasted as much on how their's tasted as I did on the Filet. We finished out with dessert. We had 2 apple crisps, 1 coffee mud pie and 1 cheesecake. All were way too wonderful to describe. We spent a little over an hour and 20 minutes at Stonewall's and loved everything about the experience. This is a high class restaurant and wasn't cheap, but it was well worth the price per plate. You get what you pay for and this was worth every penny. I highly recommend going here for your night out, anytime you are in Banner Elk. My compliments to the Chef for such a wonderful meal, to the staff for how well they handled such a large crowd and to our waiter, Corbin, for such a wonderful job of serving us. Go here.... you will...

On May 19th 2024, my wife and I were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary. I made reservations at Stonewalls Restaurant and this place did not disappoint.

From the time we arrived, the service was great and had made a reservation for 6 pm and got there early and they went ahead and led us to our table. Our waiter Alex, was a great server and very knowledgeable about the menu and even made some recommendations to us. Alex thank you for making our celebration a memorable one.

The previous year , I took my wife to a fancy high end steakhouse (Chris Ruth) in Asheville and by far Stonewalls Restauraunt knocked this place out of the park!! The quality of food was ten times better and the price was no comparison!

I would encourage steak enthusiasts and foodies in general to try Stonewall Restauraunt!! This was our first time eating here but it will not be our last!!

Upon arrival, we were served water but they have other refreshments including alcoholic beverages along with cocktails. My wife had water and I had sweet tea. We ordered two appetizers and both of them were delicious!! Potato skins are amazing and we had to try the deviled eggs and they were sensational!!

Our entrees were awesome, my wife ordered the wild mushroom pasta, and I ordered the 14 oz New York Strip cooked to my desired preference and to perfection may I add!! The New York Strip was the best steak I have ever had in my life!! It was tender, juicy, seared to perfection, and it was so good by itself I did not use any A1 sauce because the steak was delicious by itself. At the end of our dinner, Alex asked us if we wanted dessert and my wife and I were full. Alex took it upon himself to bring us a small bowl of ice cream that was also delicious to our table with a lit candle and said to us happy anniversary!! Alex it was nice getting to talk to you during our meal and will ask for you again in the future.

Stonewall Restaurant thank you for making our wedding anniversary a night to remember!! We appreciate your dedication!! From the food to the service, I want to thank your staff!! It is nice to know that you can get quality food at great prices!! My wife and I traveled from Morganton NC to Banner Elk NC to enjoy this restaurant and will definitely be back again in the...

I was really disappointed by our experience at this restaurant, specifically due to the attitude of the hostess. After traveling for two days, we were looking forward to a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially in a city known for its friendly, sports-oriented vibe. Instead, we encountered a hostess who was rude, mean, and incredibly arrogant. Her attitude set a negative tone right from the start, making us feel unwelcome. In a place that thrives on hospitality, this was truly unexpected and disheartening. I strongly recommend hiring someone with a friendlier demeanor who understands the importance of customer service. First impressions matter, and this one was very disappointing. UPDATE: The response for the restaurant reply; Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and witness your employee’s attitude. It’s disappointing to see that this behavior aligns with your restaurant’s standards and what you consider “professional.” I’m glad we found a very friendly restaurant right next to your spot, where we had a pleasant dinner. My complaint is not about the dog policy—I completely understand and respect that. The issue is the rude and condescending way this was communicated. As you mentioned, there are many places that allow pets, but it’s about manners and respectful treatment. The opposite of what your hostess claimed: she said something like, “No dogs are allowed in the state of North Carolina due to sanitary issues”. She didn’t mention service dogs, patio dining, or any other considerations. I believe Her exact words were, “This is a restaurant, and no dogs are allowed in restaurants”—a misleading and inaccurate statement. Had we been treated with a bit of courtesy, we would have gladly returned without the dog. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. But I’m glad we found a dog friendly restaurant less than a minute from your door. 🌷
